Yet another bike stolen thread (CBR250, Auckland, 10 October)

Yep, another one. A mate of mine came around to my place yesterday evening, showing off his brand spanking new 1989 CBR250.

Was just stolen not 30 minutes ago, totaled into the back of a park car and made a gap. No-one saw his face, just the engine revving its tits off down the next corner, giant crash, no perpetrator to be seen.

$4,500 down the drain, and of course since he'd just bought it last evening, no insurance.

This is a timely reminder to get off your arses (provided you have not done so) and LOCK UP YOUR BIKE. You cannot prevent a determined theft, but jesus christ you'll be spewing if all it took was a phillips down the ignitions throat.

Sure it wasnt the old owner with spare key .Might even steel it so quick that the ownerships not changed.He may have sold it a few times already.

Sure it wasnt the old owner with spare key .Might even steel it so quick that the ownerships not changed.He may have sold it a few times already.
He test-rode it in Albany, but he lives somewhere in birkdale. It's entirely possible that the owner followed him home.

When I buy a new bike, I ring my insurance company and it is covered. It is harsh, but hopefully it's a lesson well learned. You can organise Insurance cover the day you buy a vehicle, and some companies will do it without needing any readies. In your mate's case the premium would have come out of the settlement sum unless he wanted to pay it separately.

Fuckin spewing mate. Sure there's some sage hindadvice and I'm sure some lessons have been learned, but that doesn't negate that 'empty' feeling waking the next morning and seeing the hole that the bike (and 4 1/2 grand) has left.

Hope they find the fucker, and more importantly the fucker has some way of paying $4500.00

Yep I did that,got insurance on new bike.Phoned company at 4.30pm Friday,told them make,model etc on new one,and could I have cover from today,cancel my old bike from Monday.Monday was chosen for trade-in bike incase I couldn't drop it off on Saturday before work(which I did)and meant bike still at home,covered all bases.Was given temporary cover on the spot,except after 10days had no policy,rang back and had no details at all,told them exact time of call.Redid cover and was done this time.
