Hi guys, today I put on a new front Sprocket for the KTM690sm, the idea is to get a bit more speed at taupo next week, the sprocket I had supplied by the previous owner (Devil) has a plastic/rubber kind of encasement around the sprocket possibly for vibration etc?
Question is, I havent seen a sprocket like that before and wonder if its normal?

Any clues?

No idea. The one that was on the bike was a KTM one. The packet for the one that was on the bike has the original sprocket in it if you're looking for a part number or anything....

Countershaft sprockets with rubber anti-vibe dampers are standard fitment on VFR800s.

I Have tapped it at 170kmph with a 15 front sprocket, Devil the previous owner has had 180kmph which is good for a Motard of this capacity.

Could it be one of those safe sex sprockets?

my bonneville sprocket had one and the larger one that i got to gear it up didnt.Cant feel any difference running it.It may have been for oil deflection for all I know.

Oh and you can get an extra 10km/h out of it by taking your left hand off the bar and tucking it against the bike if you haven't figured that one already...

Yes it's normal.

I've just had my sprockets swapped on my hornet (down 1 front up 1 rear) and the mechanic told me that because the front is after-market it does'nt have the rubber on it, which is on OEM sprockets but just means it will be a little noisier.

So two answers for one question; Yes it is normal, and mossy it is for vibration noise.

Do they think that anyone could hear the front sprocket sonic vibration over the motor of a bonneville.Dont doubt you at all just wondering what good triumph thought it would do to my bike.LOL

Triumph I am writing to you to let you know my triumph is mint.It has oil leak just like the earlier models but the front sprocket is quiet as nun gift shopping at cupids.Very happy cheers Mossy.

Hahaha, yeah for sure I know what ya saying, it has'nt made any noticeable noise difference anyway, very very slight.

I guess it very well could have other purposes that were'nt mentioning at the time.
