View Full Version : Very close call today!

The weather today was the best it's been in ages so had to get in a quick ride before taking the misssus shopping. Apart from the hazards in my earlier thread about turkeys, gravel and cyclists I had the closest call I've had in ages.

Im coming over a blind rise on the road that runs from kaiuau to Mangatangi, I'm keeping well left as you do on a blind rise, top the rise and hello.... coming straight at me at around 130-140kmh is a prick in a Subaru Legacy overtaking a van on my side of the road on a blind rise!!!!!!!!

Never flinched, no adrenaline rush just "what a wanker".
I whacked the left bar, the bike swerves to the left till I'm nearly in the gravel and he tries to avoid me by swinging in and cutting off the van.

It was ...... well.... bloody close. However, I did managed to flick him the birdy as we passed each other with centimetres to spare. Felt like turning around, catching up and kicking his door in but thought the better of it and carried on.

Absolutely nothing you could have done about it. In a car I would probably be dead, any slower and I would'nt have got around quick enough.

There's some real dangerous arseholes out there.

What a wanker - close call alright! You should grab a lotto ticket next time you're out.

Lucky escape beyond! There was a bloke killed in similar fashion up here a few weeks ago, taken out around a blind bend by a car on the wrong side of the orad, racing his mate :pinch: Lucky you have sharp reactions

Shit mate that sounded close....

Know that stretch of road very well and a lot of the petrol heads treat it as their own rally track sometimes, especialy when the currant bun is out.

Big ups and bling awarded for reactions though but that must have been an arse tightening experience. You did well mate, glad you is ok

Now, go buy that Lotto ticket and get yerself an extra huge pie with the winnings...

I can't believe the audacity of people, what an idiot, pleased to hear you came off ok... what a wanker is a understatement... I hope the car he was passing got his plate number... "def a lotto for you" :msn-wink:

Oooh Beyond posted, where is Katman?

...really, dont worry about Katman too much, he only posts in all your threads because he secretly wants some man-on-man action from you. He is like a little schoolgirl teasing a boy who she secretly wants to kiss.

Anyway, back on topic. I have had exactly the same happen to me heading north from Hamilton back to Auckland 2-up, somewhere just out of Ngaruwahia. It was a carload of young boys, and the look of terror and apology on their faces was the only thing that discouraged me from turning around and chasing them. All you can do is hope that people who almost kill someone through their own sheer stupidity learn from their mistakes and manage not to do the same again. I saw the driver who scared the shit out of me get a whack from one of his mates, restored my faith in humanity somewhat.

Glad your still with us Beyond - good work!

In my experience most (not all, but most) people driving subaru legacys are retarded wankers with pencil dicks.

I did pull up next to a very fit young cutie in a legacy a while back, window down - I said "nice car", she goes... "nice bike". (I've been known to lie occasionally).

Good to see it was just a close call and not a fatal call.. closing speed would have hurt!!! Had a similar incident myself today.. some tosser out of shape on my side of the road on a right hander..... you got to ride like the roads about to end just round the corner

Glad to see you're still upright and in one piece :niceone:

Wow. This is a revelation. I had no idea of my physical condition . . . .:gob:

As a happy longterm Subaru Legacy owner (oh dear, it's even got a turbo, so that's even WORSE:crybaby:), I harbour a similar view of those who own gangsta-spec vehicles, and anything with abnormally loud doof-doof cr@p on board . . . . . :bash:

So let's see, if we follow the logic displayed thus far in order to avoid regrettable incidents like Beyond's, perhaps we should ban all Subaru Legacy's. Yep, the roads will be MUCH safer. Frankly, that is totally irrational. It wouldn't have mattered what the car driver was in, it's not the car's fault.

Sadly it appears that many folk here can't figure that out.

If you ban them, it will become harder to spot the drongos on the road.

Go & buy a lotto ticket mate. It's murderous shit heads like that, that totally negate being a good rider. Makes my blood boil. A WRX with the usual mentally slow driver had a crack at staying with me yesterday on a very windy road. Where did they catch me up? On the only stretch of road with blind drive ways, kids, dogs & cyclists. Moron made no attempt to slow down. Anybody know how to fit a rocket launcher to a bike?

I don't support banning Legacys.

If you ban them, it will become harder to spot the drongos on the road.

Lets see, incidents involving Subaru Legacy's being impatient and passing when it's not safe while on the road: 2, incidents involving motorbikes being impatient and passing when it's not safe while on the road: 2-many.

If you want to make generalisations, I'm happy to chip in too.

I still give motorcycles respect, room when they're lane splitting and look twice at intersections. How about some in return for the _other_ Legacy drivers ? :)

P.S. Glad you came out of that safetly Beyond, I would have quite happily chased that bastard down if I was following him for you.

There are too many brain deficient twats on any sort of vehicle, 2 wheels or more, who think that 10m clear visibility ahead is more than enough for their superb, on road "skills".

And that every road has one way trafficwithout any possibilityof another vehicle coming towards them!

(Out my way, the roads are narrow with multitudinous blind corners and hill crests - some days you wonder how you made it home....)

The know-all motorcyclist then claims the 'other' vehicle was traveling too fast, then sets about blaming everyone but his own self for the incident. Even spews out some complete sewerage about how his own excess speed for the conditions was a good thing.

Just another shit-for-brains rider DAILY adding to the growing anti-motorcyclist sentiment amongst the car driving public.

These are the motorcycling arseholes who are shitting on the experienced/intelligent motorcyclists who don't ride past traffic and around the roads with their heads spinning in some sort of bullshit motogp fantasy land.

You can all damn well forget about any back-down on fucken $750+ regos

Look, I don't know who you are or who the hell you think you are. I've read a few of your posts and sat down and watched one of your 'I'm-a-legend-in-my-own-mind' videos.

All I'm seeing is a know-all who knows fuck-all shovelling bullshit down impressionable throats.

'LEAD RIDER'. Jesus what a fucken hero alright.. "Look at me, look at me, I'm a public-road racer extraordonaire" "I can get away with it with impunity, and so can you" "Come join my cult" "I'm 'beyond' the law".

You've stuck your illegal activities into the public arena for all to see. Don't piss your pants when you draw heat from the likes of me.

Those vids likely have enough convictable evidence to haul your asses to court dimwits. All the cagers you've fucked-off wouldn't hesitate to put the boot in. More enemies for bikers. Thanks a fucken lot..

Might I respectfully suggest that you take your motorcycle out of the garage, climb aboard and make your way up to the big smoke and then spend some time riding around Auckland. Once you've done that and are still in one piece, then take in some local country roads and then I'll consider that you know enough about what it's like to ride up here to pass judgement.

I'm not talking about close calls in regard to my personal riding as I have no issues with that. What I am talking about is all the idiot cagers and whoever else that abandon the rules and pull out everywhere, never see you, don't stop at stop signs, don't give way at give way signs, cut you off on roundabouts, end up on your side of the road changing CD's or lighting up a doobie and the list goes on.

Here in Auckland we live with these close calls constantly. That is what I am talking about when I say I have heaps of close calls and don't get on here to rave about them.

I posted this thread because this close call was very very close and if I had been in a car with my family, none of us would be here now.

Happy now?
