This may be a stupid question but where does one go to dispose of used motor and transmission oil? Or is there a set way of disposing of it at home. Its starting to accumulate in the gargre.

pour it into an old tyre case. set fire to it in your back yard just after sunset. when you wake up, it'll all be gone.

QFT :(
most city dumps have an oil facility, however if your stuck with only a bike like me you might need to get friendly with the rubbishtruck driver and ask him to drop it off for you

If we knew where you lived (where the fark is "." anyway?), we could be more helpful.
Most city waste transfer stations or dumps have an area for stuff like that, and many (like Auckland) have the 'Hazmobile' where you can take oil and other stuff for recycling or disposal. Alternatively, try your neighbourhood gargre, bike shop or workshop - ask them if it's alright to dump your oil in their waste oil container. They usually don't mind.
I have an oil catcher thingie (technical term) and put the used oil into the new oil container once I've emptied it. Then whenever the Hazmobile is somehwere local(ish), I take the oil, and batteries or other stuff I have, and frop it off. Last time, I was behind a van owned by a guy who was probably a backyard mechanic or somesuch - he had most of the back of the van filled with identical 4 litre oil containers.

Abborts Way BP at the back is a tank that you can tip the used oil. Just the oil not the case.

put the oil on the road, right after a set of traffic lights that just happens to be outside a plod station... and watch the boy racers get done for sustained loss of traction :)

I used to run my bikes on refined oil - it was so damn good it made the clutch slip, the bearing rollers to skid, and the oil seals to leak.To do all that it must have been better than synthetic.

I use the oil dump tanks at Gulf harbour marina (there's about ten of them). I'd expect other marinas have similar.

Hi
Twice a year Northshore has a collection for "Dangerous goods" ie paint / oil etc, I know one drop off point is at the Clear building site and the other is out at Albany somewhere, Call NS council and they will have dates also find it on their net site.
