Not that I've fallen off or damaged my gear, but I just paid my rego (including the excessive ACC levy) and wondered if they still replace your helmet, leathers etc. if they are damaged.
Way back I remember getting a huge cheque from them to replace my Bell helmet (which was trashed) and my leathers (which they lost while having damage assessed).
I may not feel so bad about paying $86 for 3 months rego if they still cover my kit.

no they do not, had been stopped at least 10 years ago,
you can sometimes get it on household insurance

This is the very reason they are in the shit - you should insure ya gear if you want it covered. Yah and don't raise the argument that the gear saved them money, it actually saved your arse.

Insurance is your friend, ACC is not.

Fair enough, although I don't reckon that's what's made them broke.
Judging by how much physio the physiotherapist told me I needed last injury, I reckon that's what has done it.
It seemed pretty odd let the person who got paid decide how much you needed.

Nah. Internal costs is what crocked it. They gobble up most of the money on themselves. The "sensitive cases" unit spends EIGHT dollars on admin for every ONE dollar that a therapist gets...go figure.

My bike insurance covers my gear, up to $2.5k (and the same for my pillion).
Hope I don't totally write it off - my current gear cost....hrmmmm.....lesseee.... hmmmmm.... about $2.7k retail. More, if I wear all my summer and winter gloves at the same time.
I think my bike's probably worth a similar amount....

they refused to pay for mine even though it was cut off by an ambulance....
but then they are cost cutting so bad that you have to fight for the care you get....
according to their "matrix" i was supposed to return to full work capabilities in 6 weeks (after breaking my pelvis).... i laughed... i'm still on sedentary duties after 3 months.... and they are still hounding my doctor as to why i cant stand at a counter for 8.5 hours a day!
insurance is your friend :)

Yep, my bike insurance covered my gear but that was because we have full cover on it. (The bike that is). Our ginny is covered for 3rd party only which means gear is not part of the insurance cover.

First I'd heard ACC would pay for gear - good luck. They're associated to that other Government department, otherwise known as IRD - so you'd be lucky to get blood out of a stone before you get new gear or a payout - chances are, they'd probably end up charging you :killingme

I have had a fair bit of ACC funding in my time (20 years of racing mx does that) and there response has most of the time been pretty good, although when you are layed up in hospital you often need someone to chase them up for you,

Ditto here, although I raced the non-motor bikes (I think if I went to motoX I wouldn't have broken shit as much). The wife also got a pretty good deal when she smashed her ankle.
When I broke both arms about 15 years ago they were gonna cut off my racing shirt. The nurse said ACC have stopped covering clothes (bikers leathers screwed that up :D) so did I wanna try taking it off myself. To bloody right. Didn't hurt that much and how many times can you have 3 nurses undressing you???! ;) Pity I was too young to appreciate it!
Enternal spending and bludgers have screwed them up (although I don't think the bludgers/scammers use that much). I find it bloody funny with back injuries. Tried everything to sort mine out and end up going to a Chiro, they tell me I'm allowed 8 sessions to sort it! :gob: for the most important part of your body (barring your brain)?
ACC ran out a long time ago, paying privately and it's just starting to come right. Pity the scammers love backs. I could have got as many sessions as I wanted for a shoulder.
