A few changes;

Newcomers

There will be an official to greet you as you cross the track to the pit area, he/she will advise of the best areas for you to set up, where the limited power is if required and indicate where the various activities are located (sign on, machine scrutineering area, helmet check etc). The plan is to take the stress out of the beginning of the day; we all still remember our first day at the track!

Groups 1, 2, & 3

Easily identifiable areas will be set up along the grass behind the Jennian homes building. Each group will have an ‘easy up’ identified with your group number. Your briefing will take place in each of these areas after the main riders briefing (that you must also attend). It is these areas you are encouraged to ‘pit’ and attend at the end of each of your sessions for question and answer periods and feedback. The plan is to have three or more instructors in each group and you are encouraged to work with one for the whole day. There will be a track walk offered for those that wish to attend. This takes the form of one circulation of the track very slowly identifying pit entry and exit points then stopping at each corner or area of interest and an explanation of the idiosyncrasies of that particular corner/area, identify the marshalling posts and gain an understanding of how that particular corner should be ridden.

Group 4 Fast/Racers.

As well as being the group we all love to watch we are taking your group a little further.
You will be given an option in the second session to have ‘on the start line’ practice starts.
This will involve you forming up on the dummy grid as normal prior to the start of you session. At the start of your session you will leave the dummy grid, do one lap and be red flagged (stopped) at the start line. A maximum of 3 (three) riders abreast will form on the start line and ‘started’ with a wave of the flag. Once you have negotiated Jennian homes (the 1st corner) the start practice is over and you will proceed to the start finish line and line up for the second start practice. The red flag will be shown at the top of the hill (last corner) to indicate to you to stop, there will only be 2 (two) start practices of the line in this session. The session will then run as normal to the chequered flag.
Further opportunities will exist in other sessions. This will be facilitated by you forming at the back of the dummy grid prior to your session starting. Once your session is waved off the dummy grid you can (one at a time) form up at the dummy grid line and be ‘started’ with a wave of a hand by the official.

You are also included in the training aspect of the day; we plan to have prominent guest ‘Chief Instructors’ for the day and the onus is on you to pick their brains at will.

This process will be trialled for the first time on the 15th, feed back from group 4 participants would be appreciated either on the day, via e-mail or PM’d to me.

The entry form you completed is fine, there is no need for you to reapply.

That's a damned fine idea KG. Do you reckon you could extend it to G2, but if not, can a G2er join the start sequences then revert to G2 for the track-time? Lord knows, I need all the start practice I can get. :--((((

At this stage we are only offering this aspect of the day to group 4 participants dpex, with no plans to expand this 'race orientated' strategy/experience to the other groups.

Inderviduals who have specific aspects of riding they want training/experience of need only to speak to their instructor and we will endevor to meet your needs.

Ya devil.:--)) You're going to let me join the G4 starts, eh? Say yes! Pleeeease! I'll bugger off back to my own class after that.

There's only 50 sleeps till the start of the Cemetery! And I've got only the AMCC races on 12/13th to get start practice.

I was doing a bit on the South Head straight, till some cop got all antsi about it.

I explained that I'd waited till all was clear, and after all it was Thursday afternoon....one other car every ten minutes. And that I terminated at....well, when I red-lined in second.

'And how fast is that?'

'Dunno. I only watch the rev counter. But I think I'm doing just a tad over a hundred.' :--))

So some start practice would be greatly appreciated. :--))

Another rain affected event I’m afraid, all over by lunch time thanks to Mother Nature and we were hugely disappointed to have to call an end to proceedings on safety grounds. :(

From what I saw there were some very pleased individuals with some huge grins on there faces and the improvements in riding was amazing!

Groups one and two had some pretty pooped instructors at the end of the day (you guys & gals worked them hard) but all of them were impressed with the standard of riding and the enthusiasm for learning they witnessed.

I must apologise to group 3 we had a couple of issues that will be resolved by the next event but the expert guidance of the legendry Paul Pavletich along with myself and the other guys went some way to making up for it. Even Sam Smith popped into group 3 and helped a few out.

Sam Smith (what a top bloke) gave some of the fast guys the heads up on improving lines and finer points of bike control, its amazing how this guy can ride a bike so quickly and make it look so effortless. He is keen to come back and do it again next year and I for one will make the time to get on his tail and be given the ‘learn’.

How impressed was I to see a guest of our sponsor Northern Accessories arrive in a private helicopter! Prizes were presented by his partner and given to most improved rider on the day, best presented bike and for best instructor. I won’t name them but well done to both of you and well done to the immaculately presented NSR 250 owner for getting the best bike award.

At the next event (17th January) we hope to have new tyres available, tyre changing facilities, more prizes, a BBQ, the ability to provide 1:1 instruction with aid of blue tooth bike to bike communications and a dry day!!!

Cheers
KG

Was a good day till the rain came. Managed to get two dry sessions in thankfully.
A well run event from all accounts.

Big thumbs up to the organisers and Marshalls and all those that made it a smooth running event.

Enjoyed it while it lasted :)

First track day proper I have attended as a fully fledged participant - great organisation and plenty to do on the day, de-briefs and having the instructors showing lines and taking one aside for some finer points is wonderful.

Having to readjust the ol'riding noggin from road riding to track riding took a wee while to get into, but having the handsheet with photos given to me by a Group 2 instructor (Alastair?) was damn handy! Should have a big ol'poster chart made of it and put up for one and all to look at!

On Friday I got my rear tyre from 'treads, they gave me one of the voucher places and all of a sudden early Sunday morning, I'm nana-ing my way around 'puke! Too bad I didn't spot Gremlin marshalling at Castrol corner (too busy going eek! at the hairpin) I would have flung something sharp and hard at him!

Things to do : Acquire dedicated track day bike :msn-wink:

Well another excellent day organised by AMCC.
Had a fun day, bike went great, despite the rider.
Have to thank all the instructors, marshall and club volunteers involved.
I've been to others' trackdays and all were great, but you guys have taken it to the next level with the amount of individual interest shown to all participants. Everyone smiling and chatty, great atmosphere.
Thanks again,

I'm going to full in my application for the next day shortly, but I'm having difficulty over which group to select, so I need some tips from people who particpated.

I've done "Novice Slow" 3 or 4 times now (although the last two events were rain affected so I only got a couple of sessions in each time).

I feel pretty comfortable with my cornering lines (at least at the speed I am going at), and feel that I am moving around the track smothly and working well within my current abilities (I'm finding it easy).
I'm conscious of the fact that I was deliberately not going fast because they were warm up laps. I find I don't like passing people (don't know why), and I find I feel like I have to go slower through the corners than what I am probably capabable of.

I was really hoping to do a "full" track day before moving up to "Novice Fast", so I could see what I was like after the warm up sessions. But now that we've had two rain affected days I'm kinda giving up getting in a full session now ...

I also am confident that if I move to Novice Fast I'll be the slowest in the pack. And being monstered is not much fun.

Are there any newbies to "Novice Fast" here? What made you decide to move up? Any newer riders who were forced into "Novice Fast" because that have a 1000cc+ bike (mine is 600) - how did you find it being amongst what should feel like much faster riders?

My goals are to have fun and improve my riding. If I can't achieve both of these I wouldn't be happy with my day.

So do you think I should hold out and do one more "Novice Slow" session, or just move to "Novice Fast" and see how I go?

p.dath.. move up. Sounds like you have got to the stage your not going to be pushed in group 1 and if not pushed we don't improve.

In group 2 the instructors will be taking care of you and your'll start to find that corner speed is going to get pushed. You'll find you will concentrate on different things.

Learning is a progression.....
