Hi,
I am moving to Australia and want to take my bike with me. It is a 1500cc Suzuki Intruder VL cruiser. I have owned the bike for a month, love it and dont want to leave it here. Has anyone got any experience with this? What are the rules in Australia for bringing a bike into the country? What does it cost? Is it worth it financially, or can I easily buy a similar bike over here? Who does transport in NZ, and what is the cost?
Would really appreciate hearing from someone who has done this.
Thanks for your help!
Mike

Sell it and buy another in Oz, too much red tape to get it registered here in Oz, plenty of cruisers to choose from here.

What are the rego costs in Oz? Is there a similar system to ACC there?

You need to own the bike for at least 12 months, and prove ownership for that period too. They will think you may want to sell it and make on the deal.

To be honest. I moved house lot, car and bike to Aus last year. My experience is, that it is not worth it. You are best to sell it here, and buy over there. You will pay GST, the cost of transportation, New registration, insurance, and road worthy costs - add it up and it becomes very expensive.

Good luck over there

check out the www.customs.gov.au web site

you basically need to get the bike approved, vinned, checked it is ADR compliant. registration is different in each state, gain an Aus licence.
we were going to bring our bikes over & worked out to be approx $3000 per bike and that was only if they were approved - the Aus customs were not quick either - sorry not worth it, save the $3000 to spend on a bike once in Aus
