Well it is the National Government they are sneaky, liars, they said they would not chane ACC policy went wanting votes, a article that i can dig up, this is only the start, they have always ben angling towards privatisation of the health system....this is only the start..watch this space.

John Key is a greedy little money grabber and he will be aligning all this up to feed his busines mates, he has had a job which made him alot of money by playing with other peoples money....being in a government position does not change the personality that lies underneath.

What can we do? Protest?

My bike (cheaper less fuel and less congestion with easier parking taking up far less space) will have to go. It's my commuter but at 650cc I'm damned!

How can these people getting paid lots expect the people trying to save money pay for this!!!!!!!!!

the way i see it most riders are fair weather riders and dont ride over winter but as most m/cyclists are older they probably have the bike regoed year round for that just in case time when they can have a ride, so i think they will rego the bike for 3 months to cover the summer and put the bike on hold for the rest of the time, perhaps risking getting pinged for no rego

No good.
However, there were some pretty damning statistics against motorcyclists!

If it goes up to what they say I won't be able to justify keeping my bike and car!

This is what it is about -

From the TV 3 website

The owners of large motorcycles will be badly hit by the planned ACC hikes.

Rick Irvine is one owner who says he rides his bike so rarely, the new levy means he will effectively be paying $100 each time he starts up his Harley.

“It’s absolutely ridiculous, in excess of 100 percent increase on what we’re paying now, which is already more expensive than a car,” he says.

The proposed levy hikes affect every motorcycle owner.

For moped owners the increase is $200, while smaller bikes like scooters will have the smallest hike.

But motorbikes between 126 and 600cc will pay an additional $260, and the owner of any bike over 600cc will have to cough up an additional $500. The ACC component of their registration fee will be $745.

Motorbike owners say they are being unfairly targeted.

“The fact of the matter is it’s not motorcycles that are hurting people, it’s people that are riding motorcycles drunk just like they drive cars drunk,” says Steve Gregor from Sportzone Suzuki.

ACC estimates the actual contribution of large motorcycles should be $3700, so even with the heavy increase they are still being subsidised.

“Each car owner is effectively subsidising motorcycle owners by $70 each,” says ACC Minister Nick Smith.

Motorcycle riders are 16 times more likely to be involved in crashes than any other road user, and the cost of injuries is four times higher than those from other crashes.

Last year ACC collected $12.3 million in levies, but paid out $62 million on the care of people injured on motorbikes.

“What you’ve got here is a recognition that motorcycling, in terms of ACC, is a very high risk, and the injuries are severe because you are exposed on a motorcycle,” says Mike Noon from the Automobile Association.

But motorcyclists say they will not let the proposed levy hike happen.

“We expect them to try and pull money out of us any way they can, that’s their job, but that’s a big increase and it’s too much for us to handle, no one’s going to be happy about it,” says Mr Gregor.

But ACC says as long as motorcyclists remain a burden on the system, they can expect to pay more.

I like the guy on the Duc with all his safety gear on for the camera.....:clap:And the motocrosser. And the farmer. Neither of them are likely to be paying a levy.

correct me if i'm wrong, but how come there was no mention of the state of ACC from the Labour government BEFORE the election???

Maybe because one thing Labour DID do well (and no one noticed till Nats tried) is run Social Agencies on a BUDGET!

This is what happens when the cheeses from private business sector get the ear of the govt, and the public service gets shit all over.

All them portfolio's that took the big hits, (it aint medical bills causing this) got 're-managed' within a month of the change of PM

Under Labour, ACC was not in the shit......its that simple

Mmmm,
I am suspecting there will be more frozen regos over the next year or so....
And there are people who will just risk it...

Agree the proposed price is extreme...

As for the comment (by one of the people on the telly) that car drivers are already subsidising us $70 each, well so they should!
And I am actually subsidising myself, because if I need to take a load of stuff somewhere I take the ute......
Further, those that don't claim subsidise those that do, so that was a pretty stupid thing to say in my opinion.

I bet though that the car regos will not go down $70 because motorcyclists are paying their full amount.

wont it end up cheaper to be caught riding an unregistered bike and pay the fine than paying for the rego each year.

Yes, at $200.00 for the fine you are dead right. What's the bet the fine will increase soon...?

Hmmm, yes but i wonder if you do have an accident and re not registered you will most likely be covering your own costs to fix yourself as ACC will refuse, could workagainst you doing this.

Is this been done to pay for all the idiot drivers who do u-turns, open their doors or just do dum stupid things in front of motorbikes causing us to crash!!!! The only times we have had accidents is because of idiots in cars. We have 5 motorbikes between the 2 of us so bang goes my holiday every year cos the money will be going on bike rego's instead.
