View Full Version : Castle Combe circuit under threat - YOUR HELP NEEDED
Bob

Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire is under severe threat of closure.
It seems a noise order has been placed placed on the circuit, due to complaints by a small number of local residents and the threat of the circuit being closed for good is hanging over it.
The circuit – a popular track day venue - needs public support if it is to survive. An online petition has been set up, which will be sent to every member of North Wiltshire Council.
So if you want to help save this lovely little circuit, go to http://www.petitiononline.com/306007/petition.html and register your support.
Remember, if one circuit closes, this is ammunition for similar action to be taken all over the country… and your local circuit could be next.
(Guys, I know this doesn't really affect you, but it is a lovely little circuit and deserves to survive. The petition doesn't take into account where you live, so every vote will help. Please, please help this cause)

Consider it done.
Boy this really does smack of Western Springs. What a sad little life to move in next to a speedway then complain of the noise.
Obviously have no facts about this one, but I get this little voice in the back of my mind about Puke. We should keep as many tracks open as possible.

I can't believe how dreary little grey suited individuals can move in next to race tracks and then complain about the noise.
It is at the same level as the lifestyle block owners in the Wairarapa laying noise complaints against dairy farmers for waking them up at 4:30am.
We need to buy black helicopters and employ ex-SAS troopers to "disappear" these dribblingly moronic little people.

"This circuit is an immutable part of racing history in Britain. It should be maintained as a heritage site, not denigrated for disturbing the environment it has been part of for 60 years. Turn it back into a bomber airfield. That'll teach them"

Sounds like what's going on over here at Western Springs Speedway, Auckland. A small number of residents have complained about the noise (again) and the council is taking notice of them, there was talk of possible closure last year. The venue has been in operation for 76 years now!

if they close one, then the rest could be shut too. Combe Castle is a cool little track, I like it. The track has been there for donkeys years too, so it was probably there before the residence moved in. They should move!

This is just like what was happening in Western Springs. Just a few people who have moved into their houses in the last year trying to get rid of the track to boost property prices :angry2:

Done.
Comment posted was below (same rationale I outlined for Western Springs)
===
Only complaints coming from those moving to the area prior to the track being build should be valid. All else knew what to expect and have no real basis for claiming it disturbs them. To the contrary, their complaints are disturbing the track (and users thereof)

Good luck with saving the track... maybe Clarkson would be interested in raising this as an issue. I know he's anti bike, but here's an issue we likely agree on, and let's face it - he has media savvy.

Small minded people like this should either shut up or move to Omish country where they will be truely happy with all thier peace and quiet.

Fucking morons.
I live under the flight path to the airport. It's been there for years. Do I complain about the noise?
No. It was there when I got the house. I knew it was there.
The planes are so low sometimes ya can read the plane number...

Thanks for the support, one and all. Every vote counts.
I've also contacted:
Bike magazine (circulation 100,093), Lembit Opik MP - the head of the parliamentary motorcycle group, the British Motorcyclist's Federation, Motorcycle Action Group and the Motorcycle Industry Association.
Bike is also part of EMAP group, which has the three largest circulation bike mags in the UK, as well as MCN, which is supposed to have a readership in the hundreds of thousands if you believe their claims.
So hopefully these guys will take up the fight.
I'll try and keep you posted if/as and when I hear anything.

I emailed Clarkson too... just for a laugh but also because we have something in common... idiots closing down the racetrack.
I'll be interested to see/hear if they do anything... and of course not being in the UK I'm not hopeful of seeing if they actually do anything any time soon (exactly how far behind in NZ in the top gear programs - last night was the test of the BMW X3 where it kept getting bogged down, the Corvete (with the "leaf springs" in the back) and sommat else... how old is it?

Probably not tooo old - the C8 corvette came out end of last yyear , I think. And leaf springs?/ yeah , but its had an independent rear end for 30 yrs with , I think, Fibreglass transverse leaf springs?

The way I heard it (no not literally, I live in Nelson) was that it was Wellington (Environment Council) that was putting down the hard words and the Auk Council didn't like being told what to do in their own back yard.
On a somewhat related note...
I was up in the hills in the Brook Valley in Nelson at a lookout one late afternoon and could hear some boy racers going up and down the valley but something sounded wrong. Then I realised they were V8 noises and it was actually coming from the speedway out in Richmond 10-12Km away :D
