Following on from the bomb shell that is the proposed ACC levy increase, when the dust has settled and the protests faded away we are going to be left with an increase. All be it a smaller one than being scaremongered about by ACC at the moment.

This is a good opportunity to promote the race circuit as the place to be, Clubs, Track Day organisers & dare I say bike shops should start promoting and encouraging bikers to concider it.

In stead of 'on road costs' how about race conversion costs (with this new levy prices may be quite similar) for clubmans level.

Nah, if you cant afford the extra $500 you cant afford the $500 + per set of tyres 4-5 times a year + Race Fees + All the other crap involved with racing.................that is unless you are belligerent and will do anything not to pay ACC and or dont understand false economics.

Besides if half the tools that in the past have treated the road like a race track didnt crash so much there wouldnt be a issue, we now dont want these plonkers to invest our race tracks and casue price hikes there eh!

I was thinking the same thing - though I was more focused on trackdays.

Stop paying for insurance and registation and all of a sudden that's a shit load money available for trackdays.

Personally I suspect if it gets through as one large increase (rather than say phased in over 5 years) participation at trackdays will go through the roof, potentially to the point of there being one every weekend.

Personally I'm starting to get tired of the constant risk of loss of license, and becoming a hood ornament (even though I'm considered slow by many) that road riding is becoming un-enjoyable, couple that with tiring of riding the same roads that these days I only really ride the bike on long week ends when we organsise trips away. Keeping the bike for log weekends will be impossible to justify at the increased rego costs. So the next best option is to take it to the track.

My biggest gripe is that I'd never have spent 11k on a track bike, but with the devaluation effect the 600cc+ levy will have on my R1 its probably just become a 6k track bike anyway.

What if ACC paid bikers $1500 to take the bike off the road for five years - "racebike only" status entered against its VIN number? After that time it could be re-registered for the road again?

There wouldn't be a problem if the National Government wasn't setting ACC up for privatization.

Yip not everybody rides recreationally. For me, and i'm sure a whole bunch of uni students, it's our only mode of transport. So there will probably b less of us on the tracks as we pay more to be on the roads. still ridiculous!

ah but the difference is I can spend $850+ on rego, $750 on insurance and ride on the road

OR

I can take my $1600 to the track. That's quite a lot of track!!!

Only problem is I'd never have spent 11.5K on a track bike - which in effect ACC will have forced me to do, through unaffordable road riding and bike not worth selling, if these changes actually come to pass.

And, how many ride thier bikes to trackdays, on average?

For myself and Squiggles to drive to a Taupo trackdaytowing the bikes on a trailer, petrol for the car, petrol for the bikes, several pies, KFC, rental of a pit garage and a day's entry fee onto the track came to $200 each. Accomodation was free, courtesy of Katman.

Not everyone has cars, fewer are suitable for towing, even less have trailers and almost nobody likes Katman.:whistle:
