50cc scooters are about to be devalued significantly. All the students etc. that ride them will now be back walking or biking. :(

Well, at least my car has its 40th birthday next year

The levy goes from $400 to $140!

I have 10 50cc scooterss lying around, I guess they all just dropped in value. This smells of big oil. What about bicycles rugby snowboarding skating and obesity and alcohol for costing the country.

Surely there is more than meets the eye here. Looks like I might get a 125 soon!

I wonder if they would adopt that for older bikes? could be worth going retro and buying an old Ariel, Beeza or Norton.

Might even consider a bevel drive.....:2thumbsup

It would be hard to argue against it - the category in the pdf is "Vintage and Veteran Vehicles" which should really include motorcycles

Vintage Rego exists for bikes over 40 years old at the moment, so I can't see why not....Maybe a Honda cub if you stiull want to be doing the rego thing.

I sympathise with owning 10 mopeds, I'd be tempted to reduce the fleet now incase these changes go through as stated.

Good to see you're getting value for money from that tinfoil hat.

If anything "big oil" would want to keep us on the road.

Get over it. Scooters have been getting away with cheap ACC levies for years even though a large majority of moped riders choose to only wear helmets as safety gear, greatly increasing their level of injury in any accident that they have.

What if you're an obese bike-riding drunk who plays rugby, snowboards and skates...?
:2thumbsup

Which is the argument put forward by motorists to raise the ACC levy for motorcyclists in general

Nice one

He speaks the truth though, its just thats one of the problems - these idiotic-ponsonby-latte-sipping-homosexual personal trainers that ride around with no gear or education are lumped in the same category as us: 'motorcyclists'

So put up the ACC levy for morons and gearless riders

Makes no difference what they ride

I'm sick of this whole ACC bollocks now - anyone good at tuning carbs? The Dragster is running sub-prime....

Stop worrying about ya carbs and start worrying about that 10'' front wheel with a brake disc the size of a $2 coin :p

There are some nifty 125c 2 smokers still in production - 35hp+ babies with very little weight. Not the mad power rush many will be used to but for minimum reg a complete barrel of laughs for a long distance comute or a weekend blat.

As for mopeds - a moped is a motorised form of transport started with a set of bicycle pedals. for too long we have been swallowing the definition of the sub 50cc sub 2 kilowatt 50kph max speed bike/scooter/moped

In fact - I haven't seen a single REAL moped since I came to NZ (they were prolific when I was in Italy)

Yeah - it's amazing what you can achieve with a change to the expansion chamber on a wee 2 smoker.

Not at all. It is a 125GP replica bike. Popular learner bike in the UK.
