Hay guys and girls,

A good friend of mine who works for the local newspaper in the Eastern Bay's area is wanting to write a story on the ACC levies and would like to talk to an experienced rider with an opinion, preferably someone in Whakatane, but not a must and preferably someone who can represent the biker community.

If you are said person give me a PM or post on this topic.

PS thanks in advance the more exposure we have for the issue the better.

He could wander down to Tony Rees or Richard Underwood and ask either of them!... I'm sure if neither of them had much to say, some of their staff might!

I don't consider myself experienced enough to comment, other than, I'm real brassed off! Oh, and I've made a submission and signed the on-line petition...

Dangerous your in Edgecumbe apparently, mind voicing an opinion?Me? Have an opinion? Can such a thing be wrought?

Strangely, my family (wife, me, 2 kids) will be up for about $3-4000 registration annually for our bikes, probably we are the ideal folks to offer an outraged tirade. But we aren't "experienced bikers" - we're just a family who discovered "biking" 18 months ago.

It is up to you, but I wonder if our story actually be quite good for the paper to run. We might make a good photo too.

go on db voice your opinion. I think anyone who will have to part with 3k to register there families transport should be able to voice there opinion. Or like biker chick said contact underwoods or tony rees.

just ask to read the article before they print it as the way they change the wording around you might come out of it looking like a tool. :oi-grr:

Yeah, I was a bit miffed about that... I think it requires a letter to the editor. However, talking to a few people around town today, they are very much aware of lies of the likes of ACC....

Yes, I'll have a chat to Sam, I'm quite sure that was added at the editing stage.

Something has happened that I am a little embarrassed about;

I was quoted by the media saying "the basic handling skills course is a joke." This has caused offence.

In context this would have been fine. I was referring to the fact that the BHS does little or nothing to address ACC related concerns (crashes) with open-road riding. I did not mean to say that the BHS test has no purpose whatsoever.

If I had my way, we would adopt the french system, where there is substantial rider training before any rider rides any bike (except a moped.)

My apologies to John, and others affected.

The media picks up on sound bites, especially taken out of context. otherwise a good article.
There was once a time I remember that to get a licence one just had to rock on up with any size motorcycle and ride to the end of the street and back, if you did not fall off one got their licence. At least the BHST is a step in the right direction.
Apology accepted
