They are too free spirited and willful. Bike culture has consistently bred an anti authoritarian environment that as a counter culture icon, forms a mainstay of dissent and rebellion amongst free spirited people and mindless yobs.
Thats right. We'll give you a shave, haircut and a suit and corrupt you little fucking children of the sun with a bit of money grubbing hard labour in the workforce where you belong. How dare you defy me!!
Like The Motorcycleboy said in Rumblefish, 'the gangs are finished'.
Imagine motorcycle culture being taxed out of existence? What irony.:weep:

Its not going to happen. It's been too long. It's in our culture now.
Will this thread get deleted like mine did? It's a bit poor really.

Nah Motorcycle culture will just get more obstinent, agressive towards the authorities and less law abiding. Check this post in two years and tell me I'm wrong!

For Motorcycling to flourish we need to lose the Rebel without a Clue attitude.
The sad fact is though that there's a large number of die-hards that don't want to see Motorcycling become mainstream.

I have read and seen your posts over the last couple of days and not commented. Agree or disagree.
But can you please explain what you mean by "Motorcyling to flourish"? Flourish at what?

To be totally honest I don't really give a shit if the ACC levy gets ridicilous, if the petrol costs more than beer at the pub, if bikes disappears totally out of mainstream.
I still ride. Alone. On a noisy old big cc bike. And wave to the ones who ride because that is what they want to do, not because it is a cheap transport, it is quick through the congested streets, parking is easy or, god forbid, the battery bikes are given free to anyone with a rasta hairdo.
If the society then gives me a label that is their problem. What goes on inside others heads has nothing to do with me.

I just checked turners damaged auctions and most of the damaged bikes are near new scooters.
So, all the newbies who bought for economy and convienience, are the same drongoes who keep getting hurt.
Who have created this high tax situation for regular bikers who have growen up with and use bikes for life.
The newbies who get hurt give up for injury reasons or now for rego cost reasons and leave the regulars holding the handbag.
That sucks:clap:

Takes little damage to write-off scooters. And level of damage to a m/c of any stripe is no gauge of what injury the rider suffered.

How to get rid of a goverments problem ....... Just make it legal ... then tax the hell out of it.
It turns into a nice little money-spinner for the Treasury ... or ceases to exist ... or be a problem.....

It's a fair enough point, but most NZers use their bikes more for fun than as a cheap mode of transport because cars are so cheap here and bikes are so expensive. In a lot of other countries, especially Asian countries, people there tend not to ride motorbikes just for fun. They ride because it's much cheaper to run a CG125 than a car. So the motorcycle culture in other countries is made up by people who can't afford a car or when roads are too congested.

the government wants, remove larger bikes and allow smaller bikes to congest our roadshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIthEM6pDqw&feature=related
of course situations like the one in the video will bring down the accident rate won't they....surely.....

BTW In riding gear no-one knows your wearing the suit

YouŽd look like a twat waving at every single bike you see in some countries.

The way the ACC Levy pricing structure is: they want us to become like other countries, with massive costs to ride a large capacity bike, and huge increases to mopeds.
Big bikes and scooters both have strong 'scenes' in the west. Both classes have strong monetary disincentives now.....
Its just the global one size fits all mantra like supercity and fuck regional and fringe culture. How unique and individual can we be, all riding 125 autoclutches like in SE Asia??
