Has been reported today in the Hauraki Herald that the "peninsula is used as a race track"by motorcyclists.....Police will be mounting an operation in the next few weeks, motorcyclists are their BULLS EYE....
Take care all, if after you have read this and you get caught.Well

Well if you want to use the road as a race track then you deserve to be caught. Now is not the time for negative public impression of bikers.

Bugger. There's nowhere for me to go OTHER than the Coro race track without getting off the Peninsula altogether.
No worries though, I heard that Gixxers were the primary target

Its fun enough sticking to the 100km/h limit through most of those corners anyway. Was only a matter of time before Hazzard County* expanded its juristiction.

It was probably the sparks flying off your pipes and stand that got their attention.
Bloody motorcyclists eh!
Word probably went out from Government to the police brass to target bikes as the buggers have been clogging up parliaments e-mail this week.

It ok to die, that is not an extended cost that they are having to plan for.
"No young high earner crash and become tetraplegic and require ACC assistance for the next 45 years" would of been a better statement.

how many times you done the coro GP mark? every time Ive been on it the average speed was well over 100k's where ever possible.
Treating it as a race track is bit of a push, not even the worse muppets take racelines or overtake under brakes.... well i know of 2 riders ive ridden with who've done that.
the point is excessive speeding dose happen every weekend. (because its a flipping fantastic bit of road) and it carries a very high traffic volume. There have been a stack-load of fatalities on the coroGP
You put the best road in NZ and every man and his dog having a holiday and you're going to get problems.

I have been on a number of Loops Scott. 1 is a number right?...
On that day there were two bins, and I came away thinking 'whats all the fuss about the Coro Loop'? Half of its ok but its over rated, I didnt really enjoy it that much, been on far better roads to be honest.
And speed takes place everywhere, you would have your head in the sand if you think that was an unthruth.

Living on the Peninsula, I actually prefer not to ride there at weekends because of the poor riding standards of some riders. It really does give the rest a bad name. Weekdays are a joy though, with almost no traffic (and no cops )

Yes the plus side of doing shift work (or retired for some :apint: ) .... that's why I see very few fools speeding around, don't really get to ride on mainstream weekends or holidays

Same here! Plus every three weeks i get 6 days off in a row. I prefer to do my longer trips during the weekdays as there is much less traffic and people around... especially in the popular recreation spots.
Wouldn't like to go back to a 9 to 5 Monday to Friday job. :oi-grr:

Although in saying that I have't seen many twats riding like twats. I did take my kids up to Whitianga on the weekend in my black-smoke belching behemoth that should be outlawed cause it's a 4x4, just coming down into Tairua a fuckwit on a orange KTM passed me and TWO other cars on those windy bits.
I could only see the rear of the front car disappearing around the corners... fuck he only just made in! that was nothing more than just pure luck, nothing else. :oi-grr: what a fool!

well i live in Whitianga & travel these roads quite a lot with work & ive seen a few pillocks that should be on a track not a public road.
Most of the riders i have seen though are good & considerate, not taking dumb ass risks putting themselves or other motorists at risk.

All up, on the right day its a fantastic piece of road to ride, which like many other roads is great to ride quickly, but racing.... not sure thats such a good idea, you'd spend too much of your ride anguishing over the possibility of on coming traffic, mr plod and not making a corner.
I'm guessing this is more likely Joe public referring to us (the proverbial all of us) riding anything other than at car pace, which is unfortunately going to happen because we all do like to enjoy the occasional corner.
May I also take the next step in assuming that the people who do pull late overtakes on the inside/outside probably could not give a rats @ss what anyone thinks about safe or unsafe practices because they are a rule unto themselves... I am as guilty of enjoying the road from Thames over the hill, but I stick to the 100 mtr clear visibility rule for passing.
Point? don't overdo it if you don't have to, if we were more courteous, would they be complaining to the police as much?

Easily organised - outside my place in Whiti on pit straight (Buffalo Beach Rd), as you turn out from the airport road. The bridge would ideal :)
Flag marshalls - I'm sure there's plenty of people who flash their lights warning of impending danger :)
