1981 BMW R100 - brakes question

Father in laws bike failed it's WoF the other day due the the rotors being too thin. 30 years will have that effect i guess :\

whilst its far from being a classic yet i was wondering if anyone would know of a place in NZ that could supply rotors for this bike is there an after market option? a reputable second hand dealer or maybe even something that is interchangable from later model BMW's

any help appreciated.

You need to P.M K.B member Max Headroom, he has shitloads of bits for those things.
Also, R Twin Works in Palmerston Nth would be worth a call, 063 546896.
I have a pair but i run a classic sidecar & racebike that both use those rotors, so id rather keep mine as spares.

Had a quick look on Ebay .. couldnt see anything.
Suggest you try a specialist BMW site or there is an Ausi place that does discs. I wouldnt bother with any place in NZ. But that is just me and the fact I have a set of discs sitting unused & unusable in my garage from a few years back when I tried some local replacements. Nothing better than OEM apart from the cost :(

The inlaw has tried someone over in the uk and got a shock by the price he was quoted for each rotor, hence the looking for another option.

We made a couple once, had a toolmaker machine down and drill some Hillman Hunter car discs to suit,drilled out the rivets and bolted them to the carrier using cap screws

How thick are they...I only ask as the numbnuts at testing stations know bugger all about anything apart from fading of seat belts.

You bike probably has Brembos, but as so many parts are intechangable on BMW's it pays to check.

Years ago I swapped mine for cast iron ones from ...boxerworks in the UK.
Maxheadroom told me in the olden days where he lives they used to machine down Kombi ones....

They are border line now (checked them with a caliper) not to mention they are suffering from hills and valley so after a good skim to get them flat again they would be welllll under.

The guy from trademe BMWbikes got back to me with a price of 210 each disc.

cheaper than the 400 plus each from the UK

it's also been suggested he try simms in town

end of the day, i told him hes got round about month before the Burt munro so he better get it sorted quick!
