View Full Version : If I were coming to NZ where to find small size gear?

If by any chance i can have time and money enough to come over to NZ (from France, remember), would I be able to find very small size female biker gear?
I mean jacket, pants, gloves, boots and, most important, XXS (yes double X S) helmet, good quallity one of course!
Should I have to ask especially for it in shops because I am pretty sure there xwon't be any available but only child helmet.
I did have, at the beginning children helmet but I did my best to find a proper one.
And it was even a challenge in France to find a XXS helmet, although sizes depends sometimes from the brand and the kind of helmet.
As boots my size is 35 or 3 (UK size) or 4.5-5 (US size).
And for the gloves....and the jacket... I am prettty sure THIS would really be a challenge.
So are they any possibilities for me to find something of that sort when I come? As i can't take my stuff with me to travel!

Have a look on www.motomail.co.nz online shop, I think they have a store you can go in and try stuff on as well.

I went to that site but not possible for the boots, start at size 36 ...
Jacket could do but pants need XS...
And gloves I should try them anyway before.
As for helmets only some of Shoei (anyway i've got 2 shoei helmets here) can be found in XXS, of course full face.
Thanks for the clue.

Ensure you check the size chart as there are different size variations, GB, Euro, US etc are all different when the say XS or size 36 etc

Come on in to motomail and try on some of the gear. Helmets shouldnt be a problem, we have full face helmets down to youth small even :2thumbsup. The shoeis go down to xxxs, and have adjustable cheek pad sizes so we should be able to size one up for you.

As far as the rest goes, we have specific ladies gear that goes down to xxs. If you are wanting leather pants/jackets in very small sizes then best email chris at motomail and give him a heads up. He will get in the smaller sizes to ensure that they are waiting for you to try on when you arrive. No commitment.

Boots and gloves wont be a problem. We have those going down to very small sizes, as well a sa great range of luggage and other rider apparel.

Have a safe flight and we look forward to you coming over if you do :2thumbsup

If it's because it takes up too much room in your luggage, why not pack it up, and send it ahead by mail or courier? I'm sure someone on KiwiBiker would be happy to act as a delivery address for you. Depending on what method you use to send it, it may well be cheaper than buying new gear and selling it again at a loss.

I would never have thought of sending my gear ahead of me before coming to NZ...
I have to think seriously about it and study the shipping cost and the weight for all my stuff (jacket, helmet, boots and gloves, I think a pair of jeans could do) which might be heavier than I am !!!
But I am also seriously thinking of coming over to actually stay in NZ...
All right thanks a lot for the informations.

I am sure that if your size is not currently available or in stock, if you try the bike shops, they would be more than happy to order in your size for you. You could always try to email a couple of the bigger ones in the main centres and ask ahead of time.

Nice to hear you want to visit our country

Perhaps you could borrow some gear from this lady:

I would never have thought of sending my gear ahead of me before coming to NZ...You will be fine doing that. It will take 2-3 days by airfreight.

The most important thing, is to explain carefully to customs that this is your own personal motorcycling equipment to be used while on a motorcycle tour, and that you will be taking it home with you afterwards. If they think some kiwi is importing new clothing, they will charge GST on it, and it may be delayed for a week and sometimes more.

Can someone more experienced please comment further on this.

Hi,
Good luck on finding XXS gear. I too, am an XXS and I found it very hard getting gear because I am also 5'11. Let me know how you get on.

I don't know but an XXXS would be a child's size and we have those sizes here but they might come with pooh bear on them or the ninja turtles!

Fortunatly i am not going to buy and wear any children gear I think 36 will do for me.
And I'll manage anyway as XXXs would be too small I think.
For the moment all the gear I have are mainly french brands (Mac Adam, Bering, Soubirac and Ixon FYI)but I have also Heine Gerrick (VERY good quality) leather pants. Yes I managed to find some although I had to make a big hem to wear it and it is not the one I wanted but I had no other choice.
My boots are not 'bikers boots" but plain Doc Martens and my gloves are all too large alas, but not too much.

I tend to look for high quality brand gear because of my size.
And I much as I like feeling free while driving I would not ride without proper gear, or at least a pair of solid plain jeans and jeans jacket and gloves.
But I should say that I did ride ONCE wearing a skirt and heels (yes shame isn't it, it was a bet and I won but silly bet I reckon...) which i'll never do again.
I know too well how it feels to be the one kissing the pavement while falling.. even with full gear !

I only ever wear jeans and jackets and gloves with kevlar and armour in them because if I fell off it would hurt too much!

I laughed at your dare in a skirt because I once was dared to ride my motorbike in my bikini and I did and when I did the wheelie my top came undone. It was silly because I did not do it up properly! Next time I will make sure I remember that. I was wondering why I heard cameras clicking!

You'll have better luck finding the correct sizes in Europe.
NZ retailers have only recently discovered that women can ride bikes.
And NZ girls are beefy:dodge:

You should look for gear on trademe- a good trader for cheap gear imported from asia (small stuff- full range) is Cnell. Its not high end gear, but if its temporary stuff you want , they are your outlet.

I bet I probably am as well.

Anyway marigami, I've just recently bought a new helmet. I ended up getting a kids size HJC, but only because my budget didnt stretch enough to get a Shoei. I think it was the XXS that I fit. Also fit the same size Arai, but again, couldnt justify spending that much on a helmet at the moment.

And last weekend bought a new leather jacket from Red Baron. Size 6. Very reasonably priced too. So yes, it is possible to get gear for small ladies here. You just need to look around.

Sometimes people just do not understand humour if it is typed because of language barriers. I do not do humour.

There are decent small jackets here - I bought a pink one yesterday whilst on the 1000km ride in Te Kawa and it was a good price and a size 4. It was a bit big but they said that they did not do them smaller.

I hope you all ride with your clothes on - it would be dangerous not to...IMAGINE if a bug hit you right on your nipple...That would be hurting a lot!

(I had a small stone flicked into one of my fingers yesterday while riding at 115kph, and even through my gloves it hurt enough to make me gasp and my eyes water. My boobies ain't ever going to suffer that indignity!!)
