I thought afer 2.5 years id change the green fluid as im sure Red Baron would have done it when I purchased it? well firstly they might have but not with any green water more like tap water.
well anyway I got a manual and read it and was really challenged because the bloody rad cap is under the tank!
so how to expel the air while filling. solved that used the breather from the header bottle as an extention to the fuel line and balanced the fuel tank on a plank between a step ladder so I could run the motor while filling. 2.3 litres of coolant it took ages to get it in. first I drained from the water pump plug then drained the cylinders from the two engine plugs.
It was a bigger job that I thought but I did it an am sort of proud, hence this thread.
the most usefull advice from the manual was the Japanese inspired warning " Dont drink this water" they think of everything those Japanese like imagian you are half way to Wollygonggong and dying of thirst and you have the choice of your battery acid or your cooling water or your own urine what would you drink first?

You mean you don't regularly drink your own urine? According to at least one world leader, who used to quaff a glass of the stuff every day for breakfast, this is the secret to long life and good health.
The battery acid would probably do a good job of removing any nasty tumours starting to grow in the digestive tract.
As for used coolant, it must have its uses. Wart remover? Hair bleach? Someone should do some controlled experiements. Seems a shame to waste it.

Coolant is quite slippery....so I pour it on the road around the traffic island outside work.Brightens up a dull day watching the bikes lose it in the corner.

Try as I may and no matter how well I follow the instructions in the manual it seems I can never drain the full volume of fluid from my VFR when it comes time to change the stuff. I have been used to draining fluid, flushing it out with a hose, then doing up all the drain bungs and refilling with glycol and water. With the VFR my concern has been that without seeming to be able to drain all the fluid then to have the correct 50/50 mix of glycol I really need to put a slightly richer mix of glycol in when refilling or don't bother with the hose flushing which will dilute the mix. The only reason I know this is because it never takes the amount to fill it up that the manual says it holds. You would think undoing the lowest bung would drain the last drop but it holds it somewhere that I haven't figured out yet. I figure that its not life and death for the motor if some of the stuff has been in there a bit longer.

As for drinking it, bugger that.

A reverse flush is always wise, to get all the crud out. It'll also rinse out old coolant, then top up with pre - mixed coolant/water.
