I had been trying to decide if I should buy a Ventura or San Remo tail bag http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=108601&highlight=ventura but I ended up making a completely different choice!
Basically due to my budget constraints I purchased the Motodry roll bag for $89.00 via TradeMe and also purchased the Zuru link straps for $30.00 through the same trader 'partsquip' or www.partsquip.com
The roll bag has a capacity of 48L and is able to hold all the stuff I need to take into work on my daily commute - change of clothes, swimming gear, work bag etc. The bag has a built in storm cover that tucks away into a little pouch at the rear. It also has a sewn in shoulder strap as well as a clip-on one. It's very basic and has no little pockets or zipper compartments - it would have been handy to have a place I could tuck my keys but that's what my jacket is for. The bag did come with bungy cords on the base but I've taken them off.
Now to the Zuru link straps! My fella purchased a set of them so I thought I'd give them a go and I reckon they're great! They're made some kind of soft, flexi rubber, so no more pissing about with bungy cords that might ping off and scratch the bike - they have a kind of arrow shaped end so they hold in place when you push them though the holes in the strap. The bag has D-rings so that I've been able to loop it through them and attach is very securely to my pack rack sitting on the rear seat.
Yesterday I managed to fit just about all my groceries into the bag and then secure the bag with the Zuru straps to the bike very well.
I know I've had the bag and straps less than a week but all in all I'm happy with the results of spending a little less than $130 (including delivery fee). Great for someone on a budget I reckon. I'll try to add a photo at some stage of what they look like attached to my bike.
