I see plenty of talk of bikeoi to parliament etc but for those of us in the big smoke is there any sort of protest action in the works? I searched... found nil.

I would also like to do the Auckland to Wellington ride but I haven't ridden that far ever before and I've only had my Triumph a few weeks so I wouldn't do it on my own.

Im hoping some of the experienced riders from Auckland organise a group ride down.

Dont stress, there will be plenty of people to keep you company  It is a big, challenging ride for a lot of people that is a given. The best thing
though is there are a lot of riders that are more than happy to watch over and look after the ones that are going to find this trip a challenge. I am busy as a bee organising acommodation along the way so the trip can be split for those that cant to it in one hit :D

There is something in the making for an 'Auckland Protest Ride' (not to Wellington I cant make it) but not ready to post it just yet, maybe later in the week, will be going over some details tomorrow. It will be a local event possibly prior to the Wellington BIKEOI, pending a phonecall tomorrow, the date and thread could be up by Thursday.

How long has this Rockridge place been in existance? I lived, worked and went to school in the area for decades and never knew there was such a road.Who put it there without my permission? I guess I'll have to check it out in person.

I'm reading some hesitation here from riders who haven't done a long distant ride.

Hamilton (or at least me in Hamilton :) ) will be doing the run to Wellington.

If there isn't an organised group from Auckland you're more than welcome to join in with me/us (only a few have actually said yes .. let's do wellington .. but I'm in there like swimwear !!! )

Paul.

There will definitely be local Auckland rides.
And there will definitely be an Auckland to Wellington ride.
And there will be plenty of people for whom the ride will be a challenge, and plenty of others who will take you under their wing and make sure you get there in one piece.

Thats probably a very good idea.
When we did the Westpac Ride last year, I pm'd everyone who I thought would do a great job with such a task, all but one took up the offer, reasonable strike rate really.

I will be doing the Auckland-Wellington ride, happy to either haul all the way down in one day or make it a two dayer depending on what the group (assuming we have a group) prefers

Hey everyone,
Judging from the responses the ride will be November, meeting in Wellington on the 15th? and a protest at parliment on the 17th? Please correct me if i am wrong on this?
I have set up a facebook event, so feel free to add yourself to this, and forward the info on to anyone else ya think will be in.

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=162482016422#/event.php?eid=162482016422&index=1

This is set to open, so invite everyone who wants to go, and we can arrange meeting points around the north island to collect extras as we go down.
:2thumbsup

Plenty of advice will be forthcoming too about how to prevent getting fatigued/dehydrated too  Important thing for you to know though is what is your distance travelled between refuelling stops. My bike for example does less than 200 k's between fuel stops, so I have to plan those too.

I have dibbs on 170 reasonably priced beds in Turangi for a mid point stop. Details on costings soon.

Yes mine is about 220-240k's before I hit reserve so 200k's sounds like a safe stop distance.

And thank you so much for doing all this, you an Angel :innocent:
