had a bunch of shop lifters in my shop today. only caught thanks to the eagle eye of an off duty cop who was over from palmy nth for the day.

group of 5 kids came in, 4 girls and 1 very, very gay boy. clowning around like they do "have yous got this, have yous got that" and then the derisive "stink. shit shop etc" when the answer was no.
as they were about to leave, off duty cop booms at them "have those necklaces been paid for yet?" and a very snarky looking girl pulls two necklaces from her jeans pocket.
got my co worker off her break, and she called the station. with the help of the cop, got them all to stay within the immediate shop area. managed to get names off 3 of them, the other 2 refused. they were bitching to the cop about their rights, and that he cant do anything, calling him a pig etc.
local plod finally shows up... took forever considering how close the station is. i let the off duty cop deal with the details. was shaking like a leaf.
result is all 5 are tresspassed for the next 2 years, and 4 of them got arrested. the 5th wasnt in the shop when her mate got caught.
the boy tried running and when he got grabbed, he started bleating about doing him for assault. officer ignored him, took his shirt collar and literally dragged him to the car. lmfao. wisely, the girls went without much of a fight.
ive never been more grateful to have cameras up and down the main street. actually had forgotten about them until i rang the station back to check on where the cop was, and they said they had them on camera. way to go!

all of them were 13 years old and claimed to be up from bulls for the "holidays." sad thing is that they will be out doing it again tomorrow, cos the cops and their "parents" wont be able to do much.

so, to the off duty officer, lance xxxxxxx, thanks tons for your help! and also to the local officer whos name i failed to get. nothing like a bit of excitement to finish off the week.

hope not. if anything, it should anti little pricks who think its ok to steal for the sake of it. getting arrested over a couple of crappy $2 shop necklaces just doesnt seem worth it somehow.

edit: thanks to whoever fixed the thread title!

Real dumb cunts eh,if ya want to rob a shop ya don't draw attention to yourself.

End of the day it's theft, end of story and the store owner should have input when the cops reccomend any(yeah right)punishment, maybe cleaning windows and floors with toothbrush, and wearing tee shirt emblazend with "I STOLE FROM HERE"

fuck i would love to do that! weve got a couple of loos out the back that couldve used a clean. lol. i was tempted to make them vaccum, but it would have only been an opportunity for them to pocket more stuff.
the girl with the necklaces kept asking me if she could pay for them and then they could go. i just shot back with that she had the chance to pay and didnt take it, so the cops were called. stupid little girl.

Am I getting old is that kind of thing much more prevalent now?

At the end of the day they cant be charged with anything worth spit, they had an interesting day and have a few stories to share with their mates.

No doubt they will repeat the shenanigans in a weeks time, Get more attention and be less bored then hanging round home.

No doubt it will carry on until they are 18, when they can finally be charged, at which time they will spend a semi-interesting day at the courthouse with their mates, get no punishment and be less bored then if they had stayed at home.

Funny how some "find" money for things they "couldn't afford" to buy ... 'till they get nabbed ...

Unfortunately these kids learn from the best in their minds, their parents who don't give a stuff.

Thank god we gave up the cane and corporal punishment years ago,we are reaping the rewards now,tui moment. The ones that needed a decent kick up the arse get away with murder(in later life) due to lack of discipline(at school,no corporal punishment),the ones who never required punishment due to decent upbringing, and well behaved(both goody good and normal middle of road kids)might do it once and learn from the cane.

Nothing like a sawn-off side-by-side in the face to deter a would be shop lifter

Surprised she didn't say to cops or you, hell I was stocktaking, saving staff counting stock. Some are lippy as well.Mind you when they're caught it's surprising how wimpish they get when cops arrive,or confronted.

The only bugger about firearms licenses required,oh yeah I have one.Probably get busted for having a firearm not secured if you pulled it out from under the counter,be good to do so,just to watch the twats crap themselves, maybe a bb gun could do the trick.

Gotta be careful waving BB guns around, there are a few offences on the books for using something that appears to be a firearm in a threatening manner...

Yea, if you're gonna pull a BB gun out, might as well do the real deal.

Tell the nice cop when he gets to the shop you had your assistant watch the shop as you went out back and got your gun from its secure location....

I had a similar thing happen to me some years ago; three High school boys lifted about $700 dollars worth while we watched.

We rang the cops but they hadn't arrived when the boys were about to leave so I snuck out and locked the door.

The father of one of them made him come back and sweep floors, clean toilets etc as punishment. Turned out he became quite a good customer.

Yeah, that sounds like a kid whose parents actually give a shit, so chances are he'll turn out ok.

Bring back the cane!

it is much more common. they were egging each other one, with only having the sense to tell the rest to shut up.

ynot, fully with you on the cane thing. its seriously needed and should never have been removed in the first place. the rules surrounding its use needed to be looked at [like belting a kid for writing with their left hand etc] but it should never have been banned from schools.
even little kids, like 6 year olds, you cant tell them not to do something in the shop cos they will give you lip in return, and likely their parent will be there to help them out, even if the kid is in the wrong.

i think that someone needs to start courses to boost self confidence when dealing with situations like this. they will start to happen more and more often. i would have loved to be as cool as the off duty cop was, but was scared half to death of these kids 11 years younger than me.

Hell, I done a good job some time back.. Finished my early shop at Countdown in Levin and was just leaving and these 2 girls were running from the shop with those green baskets filled with good and i just thought, Hey.. There aint no plastic bags around that stuff.. Thats been nicked, And with that, 2 Countdown staff came running out after them.. So i chased these 2 girls in my car.. They went down an alleyway and i knew the area pretty well then they came out the other side, To which i was waiting with my car. They jumped the fence and bolted off through the RSA and round the corner and jumped the fence in KFC.. Now that fence doesnt allow you to get anywhere else.. So i was on the phone to the police the whole time..

Sad thing is, the girl was about 17 and when she was by my window, She said.. who do you think you are? A cop or something.. I told her i was her worst nightmare...

Even more sad, I didnt even get a thank you from the Shop or Police... :(
