How long is "a few days" for you ?
My opinion is that "a few days" = 3 days
Got talking with someone that suggested it "a few days" means "less than 5 days".
Not real sure in the end how long it is.
Whats the general opinion on how long "a few days" is ?

The length of time is entirely related to which side of the toilet door you are located...

Are you trying to date a girly and wondering about the elasticity of the time frame of replying? :devil2:
Or is this something bike related ... :shifty:

Less than five days sounds reasonable enough to me...

so does it mean that "a few days" = "less than 5 days" = 4 days ?

Does it depend on who says it? Car salesman, loan approvals manager etc etc? Working days ar actual days? C'mon Toto, enlighten us!

But, then you have to consider, what is menat by "day".
F'instance a day on the planet Pluto (is so to a planet - bite me), is MUCH longer than a day on Mars.
I think a day on Mercury is one year long.

It doesn't mean anything specific - that's the guts of it.
I'd personally take it to be 3 to 5. 2 = a couple of days, 1 = "a day"... moer then that but not too many :)

A few days is twice as long as from half way to the start.

Doesnt "several days" mean more than "a few days" but "less than a week" ? But if " a few days" is up to 5 days and a week is a solid 7 days, dioes that mean that "several days" is actually a definitive 6 days ?

Depends on who says it.
My dad has just popped out for a few days to take a walk.....he does these walks regularly so I'm not concerned.
Did I mention he went to Nepal ;)

Well, technically, 'few' is the reverse of 'many' and the counterpart of 'several'
So 'a few days ' means 'not many days, but too many to be specific'
Go on , go on, ask it, you're dying to 'So how many days is many days '

Strange, I would have taught it was more than "several days"

It may be also. 'several' means an enumeratable number . cf the old usage "three several days".
We may say "there are a few flies in this room" ; or "there are several flies in this room".
The first implies that there are a (smallish) number of flies, but they can't be separately identified (cos they flying around?). The second that there are a smallish number, and each can be identified separately . Several is related to sever and separate.
I love these arguments.

Does "a few" get larger or smaller in size depending on the change of the size of measured units?
For example "a few minutes" - we know that it is definately more than "a couple of munutes" (2 minutes), but it must be less than 5 munutes because the we would say 5 minutes (as minutes usually get called on fives), so does it then mean that "a few minutes" would mean from 3-4 munutes as oposed to "a few days" that we "agree" means 3-5 days ?

Surely 'Few' is the reverse of 'Wef' ;)
I entirely agree with (it depends who says it).
My daughter says I'll tidy my room in the next few days, apparently, in this case, a few days means never ever ever.

My Dad explained it to me when I was little that it was 3 or more but not too many etc etc. Funny, I seemed to understand so much better back then!

You wouldn't want to sit in a pub, on Mercury. The atmosphere is terrible.

Depends if it is a TRADESMAN saying "I'll quote you in a few days" which is maybe 2 days for quote. Then to after accepting "I'll be there to start in a few days" is maybe 3 days till a time he goes off. Then after a "few" calls "I'll be able to finish within a few days" which is be there in 6 days and take me 10 days to finish.Followed by the invoice arriving next day with payment wanted in FEW DAYS.
Seriously to me would mean 2-3 days, any more you say 4-5 days or a week.
