It appears we have a date, 17th November.
For those who can make it we shall leave Alexandra on Sunday 15th, pick up riders from Queenstown and Cromwell at Cromwell, and riders from Wanaka at Tarras. Times to be confirmed.
Through to Christchurch that night, and the afternoon ferry from Picton on Monday 16th. Return on the morning Ferry on Wednesday 18th through to Christchurch, and home on the 19th.
For those riders who can only manage a local protest, I should have details about a protest ride in Dunedin coming soon.

Is the plan to be staying in Chch the night from the 15th to the 16th? If so I might be able to provide accomodation for a couple of people. But unless people are bringing camping gear, spaces will be somewhat limited, depending upon the goodwill of partner and flatmates.

Thanks for that Mikkel. The plan is to stay in Christchurch on the night of the 15th going up and 18th coming back. I have no numbers at this stage, and don't expect too many from this area. Of course I'm hoping for plenty though.
I put up posters in the two Alexandra bike shops this morning, and hope to get some in Wanaka and Queenstown ove4r the weekend.

I was a bit hasty - I forgot I have an overseas visitor from the 6th 'til the 18th. However, I will still try and see if I can go to Wellington with the rest of you - and the offer of a dry place to sleep and park for the night still stands, I might just not be home myself but I am sure at least one of my flatmates will be.
We have a large comfy double airbed and at least 3 self-inflating tramping mattresses up for grabs. Plenty of floor space either in the living room or in the garage (according to Tank the garage isn't a bad place to sleep :) )

I've had a look....this seems to be about as local as it gets for me so I guess I'll just pay the extra $250 ACC...protesting will cost me more.

I'm planning to fly down to Dunedin on the morning of the 15th to pick up a bike purchased on tardme and ride it back up to Akld (working the protest into the trip).
I am planning to start from Dunedin around mid day on 15th to ride the first 430km to ChCh then ChCh to Wgtn on the 16th.
Is there anyone else riding from Dunedin? or is there a group I can link up with in ChCh.
Am holding off booking ferry's flights etc until this is sussed.
Anyone??

We are trying to get a few from Dunedin. have a look at http://www.southernrider.co.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9708
The Central Otago riders will head up through the middle of the Island and stay in Christchurch on the night of the 16th, so we can all meet up there and continue north on the 16th. Best ferry times are the 14:00 (Bluebridge) or 14:35 (InterIslander).
BRONZ Otago are having a meeting this week so should know some more details soon.

Are there no demonstrations in Southland? It doesn't have the same impact ...one guy riding around the streets on his own....

As far as I'm aware no-one has offered to co-ordinate Southland so far. So maybe you are it by default. :done:

Ok! I've booked my airfare arriving Dunedin mid morning 15th to pick up bike. Will leave Dunedin Midday to arrive ChCh and stay the night of the 16th and then depart with protest ride group morning of 16th to catch the 2:15 Interislander (also booked).
Questions
1. Anyone else going up from Dunedin yet?.. nothing happening on Southernrider site. (bit of apathy down south eh!)
2. Can anyone recommend cheapish ChCh accommodation? (with at least semi secure off street parking) Contact details appreciated.
3. Where is the Chch meeting/departure point and what time is the meet/departure?
Thanks

I was hoping that the Christchurch people would organise a meeting place etc, but so far I've seen nothing from any of the Christchurch riders. In the meantime I would suggest a meeting point being the Shell service station at Belfast on the corner of Johns road (SH1) and Main North Road at 8:00 am. That gives us plenty of time to get to Picton for the afternoon ferry.

I haven't managed to find anyone going up from Dunedin but this Jaffa is gonna do what he can to supplement the poor showing by the southernmost of Southern men.
After arrival at Dunedin airport I will proceed (on my new old GSX 1100EF) to the Mobile service station at 915 Cumberland St N at 12:15 pm and shall depart there at 12:30pm for a nights stay at Abbey Motor Lodge Christchurch.
Next morning I will meet up with Jantar and the other Southern riders at the Shell Belfast service station at 8:00am.
I am looking forward to this ride. Haven't been to the mainland since I was a young fella.

Got a phone call today saying that the 2:35 InterIslander was having an unscheduled service so they had to bump me forward to 1:00pm (alternative was 6:00pm) Anyone else in the same boat  If so, is that likely to impact on the proposed 8:00am start from Shell Belfast ChCh?

I'm the same. Now on the 1:10 pm. That's still OK for leaving Christchurch at 8:00 am. Just means that we have to have lunch on the boat rather than on the way.

People could stay at my house if they don't mind sleeping on the floor.
I am taking a half day off work on the 16th, then riding up with my workmate to catch the 7 o clock ferry. I guess we won't be able to stop on the way up apart from Kaikoura for fuel. I got my full licence today, and my stator arived from the UK, so she's all go!

We have 5 riders coming from Central Otago (3 from Alexandra and 2 from Tarras). Considereing Tarras has a total population of less than 100 that's a pretty good percentage.
So on that basis I expect to see around 3000 riders from Auckland alone. :woohoo:

I'll be at the Shell station at 8am. I'm riding up from Dunedin with FlyingCroc on Sunday.
I'm on the 2pm Bluebridge Ferry so I'm going to take the scenic route. Turn off at Waipara, stop at Waikari to have a cup of tea with my parental units and then head up to Kaikoura via Culverden and Waiau using the inland road. Its a great road and I can thoroughly recommend it.
The other option is to turn right at Waiau and use the Leader Road to just North of Parnassus. The Leader is a fantastic motorcycle road and if you go that way, you still get to ride the Hunderlees and the coast south of Kaikoura.

Stan, I gotta be there by 12:40 to catch the InterIslander. If the ride is way better and I can still make my Ferry on time I'll have a look at it.
Have you got a bed sorted in CHch? If not, you are welcome to one of the spare beds in the Unit I've booked at the Abbey Motor Lodge.

Thanks Virago. We didn't miss the bloody hail. Stopped after 4Km to put on the wets :cold:
Got better as we headed north but still got a bit of rain up to Timaru. Very nice in Christchurch though, especially after a couple of Steinlagers ;-)

Thanks for coming to see us off Ken. Nice to put a face to all those infractions I've collected:laugh:
I'm considering getting a tow ball fitted to Baz so he can tow his own mini tanker. The greedy bugger is drinking a litre every 12.5 km:shit: and we had to bunny hop between gas stations.. Sorry Stan:o
Have adjusted the gear lever and rear brake so I can use them. They were set up for a gonedurn dewarf. And I managed to butcher and wire on my finely engineered plastic pencil case brackets for the Buel Cyclone screen that I had chucked in my bag for a bit of wind protection.
Looks like sunshine for tomorrow:D

Yeah mate! All good. No breakdowns, just ate a little oil and a lot of petrol. Had a shit of a ride back from Wgtn Yesterday... Rain, heavier rain, more rain and dud wet weather gear...
Tuesday was Massive. Gunna have to keep the momentum going though. Don't want them turning ACC into a cash cow with a legislated income so they can sell it as an insurance company. Can't believe they aren't taking us seriously.
Nice to have caught up with you. Thanks for your company. How was your cuppa with your 'parental units'?

Yes, it was pretty awful in Wellington on Wednesday morning. Lucky for me I was heading south and only got a bit of rain through the Hunderlees and a couple of showers when I got in to Christchurch.
It was nice to catch up with the folks and the ride up through the inland road to Kaikoura was great. Fantastic road and no traffic except for camper vans coming the other way.
