Hey all just a heads up that the Dunlop Targa is on again and to watch out for the crazy rich bastards racing there cars on special stages starting in Auckland and Finishing in Wellington...it starts on monday 26th and finishes on saturday the 31st so there may be an increase in traffic in your area throughout this time.
I will be in one of the rescue cars so if your out riding look out for a Ford Mondeo Station Wagon with Targa all over it and Ambulance stickers too!
Give us a wave if you see us.other wise stay off the footpath cause I`ll be driving too.

I followed a pair of Legacys down to the MWay at Neilson Street earlier, one of which was blowing lovely puffs of blue smoke at every gear change, so you may well have customers...

Well they have 4 wheels and lots of money so I'm guessing not that much.......

these guys pay mega bucks to enter and the owner / organizer of the event has to pay huge money to have the road closed and yes they do pay , all cars are supposed to be wof and registered before they can race.
the first stage i did today actually snowed for nearly the whole two hours that we were there...at Irirangi just south of Waiouru then we went and sat mid point on the corner of Rangiwahia and Mangamaka roads Ohingaiti.

From there when we cleared we went to Manfeild for the track part.
On Friday its my turn to drive and we start first up by doing the saddle rd a stage called windmill alley then on to Pahiatua rd Pongaroa ,and finally heading down to Martinborough for the last stage to Gladstone.
When we finish there we then go to lower hutt top 10 holiday park for our accomodation.
I`m driving tomorrow and we get to sweep the stage ...this is where i laugh my pants off trying hard in a 2003 ford mundano (mondeo) 2 litre auto with hurst combi cutting tools which is pump combi tool( cutter and spreader in one) ram and other gear plus my Advanced Paramedics kit including including Advanced Paramedic, scoop stretcher, mark 11 stretcher and defibrillator unit + oxygen cylinders etc etc to keep up with the 999 safety car that opens the stage and a police car and ACOC (assistant clerk of course) who has another paramedic/ambulance officer with him its just not humanly possible...oh yea but we try ...also the cars for sale after the targa so anyone want a thrashed 2003 ford then look out for it it prolly gonna be cheap.
Ah well Ill update later on when i get a chance.

Tyres, Fuel, Repairs ,Food, Accomodation, Speeding tickets, motorsport fines, donations to the schools through a passage control...plus everytime you hit a fence its a thousand dollars if they catch you if not it comes out of the promoters money hehe yeah I`d say its cheap ...insert tui ad here. depends what you do also if its a the targa tour it costs 2 to 3 thousand but when you have to pay for your crew as well these guys are paying big bucks to do this .

It was $4.5K last time I looked, plus extra costs. Value for money it's still cheaper per day than some shorter tarmac rallies, but it's not budget racing by any stretch of the imagination.

And when you crash and burn the car bugger.Caught a news flash of a guy who hit a bank on way to Palmy, wasn't too bad, then a few seconds later another car totally takes the front end out of first car.Looking at the guy his first thoughts were probably along lines of Friggin asians.

Quite right. Had a mate with a mate do it in a V8 Commodore a few years back, I think they parted with about 5 or 6k. They did ok in their class until it got a bit out of shape and snotted the front end.

I think 4 or 5 went on the entry and prep costs, the rest on piss.

The escort of Clark(metal man)Proctor is bloody sweet, all he needed was the hoosiers from an old stock car.Best looking car was the green machine of Chris Allen a couple years ago, nice falcon.Definately can see the credit squeeze on numbers this year.

Well its all over .... what a blast .
Last day of Targa saw me and my Advanced Paramedic on ss40 Whitemans valley rd and just before the last of the Targa Cars had finished and the Wellington targa cars were to go through...news came through that a girl had fallen from her horse and had a broken arm so the stage was turned White while we were sent in to escort the mother through to the next exit a short drive of 14 kms at speed with me navigating this time saw us to the road where the lady was waiting, the AP checked the Patient and told the mother to go ahead of us so we formed a block in case the starters didnt wait for our call, it was only about 2 k`s to the next exit where we checked the child and asked if she wanted pain releif , she declined so we sent the mother on to the hospital in Trentham and parked ready to go again (as we exited the stage I had already called rally base and turned the stage green), no more problems on that stage so after we swept we the stage it was off to cover the next 2 stages then had to move from Haywards hill to Johnsonville for the Makara stage after that saw a quick stop at my brothers work (James Deuce) .....Thanks for the beer Jim, we finally returned to the Hutt Park top 10 got changed and off to dinner for the last time.

I think the Highlight of the Targa was meeting Shane Van Gisbergan a number times and joking around , hes easy to talk to.

The next thing would be being able to drive roads at speed and the 3 laps of Taupo race track , But the best thing was the brilliant Time I had with my fellow workers from St john Both me and the other Firefighter were treated well and it was awesome to work with such a dedicated bunch of Professionals. Cant wait untill next year. Oh yeah next event bring on the WRC in May.
