Spies deserves this. Much as I admire Haga, Spies is the newest rider to the championship, on one of newest bikes, and with the exception of some bad luck, has totaly dominated.
Haga will do it next year, no problem.

Nah...Spies will win both races..and even if Haga is 2nd in both (a big ask from 10th on the grid)..Spies will win as he's won more races than Haga. That's why he's earnt it!

I completely disagree. He left the banzai behind after the drug thing and channeled his aggression into being consistently fast.
Toseland will come back and destroy him. Haga's opportunity was this year. A Ducati developed by one of the best riders in WSBK vs. a bike developed by one of the most incredible talents ever, ridden by someone who has won WSBK championships before.
It's by no means a done deal, but Haga has peaked.

Great racing this year with some not so known name J Rea ,Shakey Burns , etc stepping up to the mark & beyond , Happy to see Ben Speir take the WSBK title , feel for Hagga but from what I seen through out the season it was always going to be close & not a run away win like most thought with him taking over the Ducati seat
Maybe it was his only real chance at getting the Title in 13ys ?? or as history has shown with him 2nd is his thing . Close racing but still only 2nd best . :done:

Interesting comments from Fabrizio... "Me and Rea will be winning races next year"... Bit of a rub in Haga's face after stealing those 5 crucial points. Of course he probably considers that even stevens after taking Ben out lol.
What a season!

Hard to know just how good that R1 is though. Cal Crutchlow certainly could be one to watch next year. But only Spies has shown any pace this season, and Tom Sykes is a better rider than his results have shown, thats for sure.
Max Neukircher could be on the pace next year on the Ten Kate Honda, and have Aprilia signed a team mate for Biaggi yet? Shane Byrne would be great option for them.

I still forget to use google to look things up.(price of being a computer dummy, )
Here's what i found.
"According to the new rules,(2008), twin-cylinder motorcycles would be 6 kg heavier than four-cylinder machines (168 kg to 162 kg) and would also have a 50 mm air restrictor fitted.
The weight limit and the intake-restrictor size of twin machines would be updated, if needed, during the Championship, by a system analysing the race points obtained."
I'm not sure on the air restrictor, but IMO,it would want to be comparitively restrictive,as 6kg seems like a small price to pay for 200cc of capacity.

Unless you wanna see a grid full of 4 cylinder bikes get used to the idea that twins need to be bigger than 4's to be competitive. A 1000cc twin only has the same valve area as a 750cc 4, hence the earlier 750cc 4 vs 1000cc twins regs. Valve area = hp, simple as that.
This spoilt brat stuff is just a load of shite too. They can't be competitive with 4's of similar capacity without spending several times as much $$$ (ultra short life on over stressed components) so if that's what they are forced to do they'll be gone. Nothing spoilt brat about it, it's just simple economics.
If you want true equality you'd have to have a series full of independently prepared one make, one tyre, one suspension bikes etc etc which would be kinda bland I reckon. On the other hand I reckon the series is that much more interesting with twins, IL4's V4's etc. Vive la difference!

Won one race, in a one off appearance. Yes Bayliss did do a bit better in GP's than Toseland but he never rode a 800 which seems to be a bigger step for the superbike riders to make than the 990's. Toseland will be near the pointy end next year, how close? Well I guess we only have ~5 months to wait!

Toseland is no Bayliss. I think Haga might be finished too - he's had enough chances. Fabrizio, Rea and Crutchlow will be the ones to watch next year for my money. Pity that Biaggi lacks hunger these days - that Aprilia needs a charger on it.
Hate to say it, but told you that Haga would start crashing trying to stay with Spies. The resultant mid-season injuries ruined Haga's best shot at the title.

The 1200cc rule is not only for Ducati, is it? Any manufacturer can run a 1200cc twin if I'm not mistaken?
From what I've read, the 1200cc rule came after Aprillia had started their WSBK bike developement, if it came earlier, maybe they would have chosen a different configuration too.
It's unfortunate that looking at them numbers alone, a 200cc advantage seems like a lot. But imagine a Ducati and a Yamaha flat out on the straights side by side... remove 200cc from the Ducati, and it will probably more look like a Vespa with a superbike fairing compared to the IL4.
I can't wait to see Ducati release a superbike based on the V4... Will it ever happen?

I think you are reading more into it than there is. Ducati can't compete financially if they are forced to run a 1000cc twin, there's no spitting the dummy, it's just cold hard facts coming down from the bean counters. Suzuki on the other hand don't seem to be able to make a good race bike these days, despite making awesome road bikes, I reckon they need Ray Clee on the job.
I'm not a big Toseland fan, especially after the Edward's crew chief debacle. He's no mug but I reckon the stars aligned for him to win his world titles in lull years on two powerhouse teams after the cream of the WSB crop buggered off to MotoGP.
Spies? To do what he's done against Mladin, and in WSB as a rookie, can't be underestimated. To top it off he seems like a nice kid (his mum on the other hand....) so I really hope he does well in MotoGP.

Not true. Mladin easily won the AMA superbike title on the GSXR...I'm sure Spies would've won the world title on it too. Doin ok in the Ausie super bikes and was going great guns in the UK until the main man was taken out.

Not true. Mladin easily won the AMA superbike title on the GSXR...I'm sure Spies would've won the world title on it too. Doin ok in the Ausie super bikes and was going great guns in the UK until the main man was taken out.
AS I'm sure you know...all depends on who's stretching the throttle cable. Or as the case may well now be...twisting the grip that USED to be connected to a throttle cable!
Yep, good points mate. Everyone is raving about Spies, and deservedly so, but a lot of credit has to go to Houseworth and co who he dragged with him from the AMA Yoshi Suzuki team. Imagine if Peter Doyle ran the WSB effort.
Bayliss did OK in MotoGP (handled the Duke better than everyone except Capirossi and Stoner) but it wasn't until he took his WSB team with him for that one off appearance and win that things really clicked. All goes to show how much of a team sport it is.

If you cant nail a setup your just going to spin your wheels and go nowhere.
Having people that know how to set up a bike for you must be a huge advantage...

Gotta know what to tell them in the first place though.

+1
I like what you have to say there.

I think the Ducati issue has been pretty well covered. WSBK is about production based bikes, with Ducati building an 1100/1200cc sportsbike you can't really expect them to turn around and and race a 1000cc bike that they no longer build?

Is the KTM RC8 competing next year in WSBK?
Took this pic at the KTM factory in September.

Hmm, not sure about the Toseland comment. I think he road very very well against Laconi that year on the Duke and well earnt his title.
Hodgsons title on the other hand might be considered a bit more of a gift (but no title is easy & it takes a lot more than just being able to ride a bike fast to win a title over a full season (just ask Haga).

Nice picture!
I've been following the Finnish superbike championship where Vesa Kallio (Mika's brother) has been very successful on the RC8. He won all the races he entered.
Don't they have the RC8 cup in GB as well?
KTM must have learnt a lot over the past year and I'd be great to see more of them in the future.
Btw, I saw the Aprilia RSV4 today at Motorad! What a beauty! It's quite small actually. Wouldn't mind taking it for a spin!
