Went around to the local car wash at Greenlane to give the bike a clean. After riding down to Taupo and back in the rain it was in need of one. A new serviced car wash called Car-fé had opened next to it. Get your car washed while you wait in the attached café. So, I thought I’d see if they did motorbikes. They do, but the guy who cleans the bikes (and apparently knows what he is doing according to the guy I spoke to) was not there that day. One of the other guys offered to do it so I thought I would give it a go, even thou I dread leaving my bike in the hands of a cage driver.

I was told by the manager that they don’t usually allow the public to stay in the cleaning bay, but he would make an exception for me. Talking to him later I got the impression you get from anyone offering services for vehicles. They are only interested in offering it to cars and don’t give a shit about motorbikes. I kept getting told that they were not set-up to clean bikes and the boss didn’t really want to get into bike cleaning. He was only interested in getting cars in and out as quickly as possible.

The guy who did clean my bike worked it for just over an hour and he did a reasonable job for a cage driver. There’s a lot more involved in cleaning a bike than a car, especially if you want to do a decent job. I don’t expect them to spend that much time on the bike next time as the manager was getting annoyed at the time it was talking.

The job cost $35, which is a good price. I will have to go back there next time to see if they do the same again. I will also make sure the guy who usually does the bikes is there too.

Below are a few before, during and after photos.
