I wont be on here for a lil while. My Baby son took a decent (2.4m) fall onto concrete last nite. Some head trauma and a fracture of the pelvis.
Hes not his normal self so I'm pretty worried re long term effect of hitting his head from that high. This is rewally for those that asked

Mate bad news Hope he is Ok
my boy did the same and was a bit dazed for a bit, he came right they said he bruised his head and got slight concussion.
Keep him in the face of the Doctors for a while.
Im sure he will be fine, kids are very hardy, gravity is kinda to them

Oh shit, poor little man. Best wishes for his recovery. The good thing is kids are amazingly resilient and heal much quicker than we do. Take care Tony - I assume he's at Starship or has he been shipped to Middlemore because of the pelvis?

Oh crap! You must have been VERY worried. Hope the wee fella is going to be OK.
He didn't fall into a pit in a garage did he? I know a mechanic who's 2yo daughter fell in twice. Apparently she was fine both times- he reckoned she bounced.

Don't you just love being a parent! There's nothing else that makes you realise how powerless you really are. For what it's worth I think it's way too early to worry about possible brain damage just yet.
There's really b-all you can do other than take care of the wee fellar. Hang in there mate, you've got the teenage years ahead yet!!!!!!!!!!

shit, that's terrible.
Kids bounce back real quick (if that helps at all at the moment). I remember the crap me and my bro used to get up to, and we're still around.
Hope he recovers quick for you.
you know where I am if there's anything I can help with

Bummer Tony...
Good luck and kind thoughts to you and yours mate... Fortunately we live in place and an age where miracles can happen.
As others have said, hope for the best, kids are very tough little critters. Parents of course are not... One of the great inponderables of the universe mate..

When I was a similar age... mabey a little older, I was dropped from an L300 Van onto my head and I still can sort of remember the ground being on some weird angle and people running over.... (fuzzy as hell).
Best of luck and I hope the little biker gets better asap!

Frosty, I hope everything works out well in the end. As other people have said, children of that age are pretty resilient! All the best.

Just got home to Napier only to see this....shit, what can I say. Hope all will be OK - usually is in these circumstances. My stepson at 2yo fell 8feet onto concrete & yelled blue murder - he'd broken his biscuit - nothing else. Kids are tougher than you think.

Jesus Tony .... I hope he'll be OK ... I always worry that something like that will happen while I'm at work and Mini-Hooks is doing the minding !! Nothing so far ... touch wood ... I agree that the little tykes are very tough and can take quite a bit more than you would think !! Hang in there and all the best ...

Jeez... sorry Tony. I'm sure that he will be okay: funny little things, kids. But I'll still touch wood and cross my fingers for you just the same. Let us know (through someone else if it's easier) what happens, will you?
-Want us to send some colourful cards to his ward for him so he has something to look at?

Fu*ken hell Tony. Really sorry to hear that. All I can say is that young bodies do a better job of fixing themselves than old ones. They may get damaged easier but repear quicker and better. Hope the young one heals well and the parents do too (emotional scars are the hardest to heal).

I feel from a 1 story roof while playing power-rangers when I was about 6 and cracked my head open, so as long as your kid doesnt start acting like me you have no problems.
Keep your chin up and take care of baby bikie

As one who has had a concussion I can tell you that the body has an amazing capacity to heal itself and as RiB said the younger ones heal better and faster.
Hope things pan out for the wee one.

Thoughts are with you and yours Frosty.
Just be thankful the rule generally runs true that, the younger the kid the better they bounce. Ie The younger the child the less likely they are to have tensed up before impact, add to that that their bones are still soft and therefore more flexible means longterm and serious damage is less like than if a similar event happens later on.
I was one of the unfortunate one's. Had a pretty serious head injury when I was about 8 or 9, due to the fact I had a disorder called (in laymans terms) clumsy syndrome. It simply meant I didn't have the natural impulse to put my hands down during a fall. This resulted in me falling on concrete from a height straight onto my head. Fractured my skull, spent a week in hospital, and according to parents went from an articulate, happy caring kid to a muttering, swearing punk with a bad attitude over night. Had to go to physical therapy to "learn" to put my hand down when falling.
Kids never understand how dangerous everything is till they become adults with kids of their own.

Thanks a million to those that posted and called. Little bugger scared the beejeebers outa me.
In the end other than a sore head the only damage turned out to be a greenstick fracture in his pelvis --and thats so fine that they didd'nt pick it up in the first x ray.
I guess being a parent ya think the worst and hope for the best.
Anyhoo all is quiet on the ol frosty ranch. -Now maybee I can go work on mella yella

Yup - and us parents out there cringe when we hear about it... especially with the little ones... Good luck to all involved!
