So I turn on the TV3 news last night and one of the teasers is about another fatality and they show a picture of a bike lying on its side in the road that has obviously been in an accident. The story comes up and it's about a van that has hit a pole near Waihi and has killed 2, 4 injured etc. WTF? Doesn't help the cause of motorcycle safety.

You are mis quoting the TV story bro (easily done when the pic of a bent bike was the lead in)
The Bike was a byline (for once) of the total road fatalities this weekend, rest was cage carnage

There was one fatal motorbike accident near Nelson, BUT there was this massive fatality where a van rolled with 8 teenage occupants....

The Biker hit a bridge, no other vehicles involved......
I feel for his family...anyone know if he was a KBer?
Condolences to his kin.

I saw the trailer, didn't stay to watch the item.

Would that be a breach of the Broadcasting Standards do you suppose?

edit..... may be not then

kinda what he was saying still though isn't it?, they still chose the footage of the bike to sum up the weekends road toll (what was the road toll at the close of the weekend? was 6 last I heard), not the van

The bike accident was actually reported as near Greymouth! (200 miles South West of Nelson)

You can see how stories get stretched, can't you!

It pisses me off that this morning a rider layed rubber in the wet from an intersection in Wellington in city centre infront of at least a hundred people at three light changes in a row. This is the shit we dont need at the moment.
It would be easier to get public support if we toned it down a bit.Everyone is watching they way we act right now and that shit doesnt help.

More importantly did you follow it up with a mint wheelie?

No not at all

The bike was NOT the lead in pic, one of a Van messed up was shown first, the story was half over before they showed the bike, and it was the least focussed part of the story

Watch it on TV3 on demand if you want to be sure yaselves
:)

Sorry for my unfamiliarity with Upper South geometry, your dead right was Greymouth, not Nelson my bad

And yes was 6, 2 up from last year

But last year, 2 of the 4 were bikers so, in a strange way we improved our labour weekend toll for our team

Im really more pissed that my bonneville wont burn rubber even in the wet with rear tyre inflatted to 60pounds let alone do wheelies.

ok! didn't actually see it but 1news did the same thing, but the lead was definatly the bike, with a quick shot of a car with right hand, front damage that at the time I assumed was made by the bike, but then no mention of a bike at all

This is sort of off topic but the media is a bitch. They will stretch stories way beyond what they really are. The media talked the whole world into recession, just so they could have stories for miles (think how much it has given them to talk about for the last 18 months!) .suddenly it says on the news that we are out of recession [yeah right] to boost peoples confidence into buying more etc. Now they are loving this motorcycle story ["yay, something to talk about, lets show a pic of a crashed motorbike, even though more car drivers died, then people will go tsk tsk those damn motorcyclists"]. And i cant stand the bullshit my girlfriend watches on E! channel, a whole company devoted to bitch about people when 50 percent of the stuff is not real. "oh brad still txts jen etc etc". lol. media rant over

Sensationalist? Yes. If you recall the big fight between the two Auckland high school rugby teams a couple of months back ... TV3s coverage that night was the footage of the fight with slow motion replays of the best bits. TV1s coverage was discussion of the incident with a couple of rugby officials. Good example of the difference between the channels.

Yet TV1 led into the road toll with the Bike picture and another image that suggested the bike hit a car...

This time TV3 were the objective example

Oh well

Bloody paparazzi (Ixion better look out he will have scooters following him into tunnels!!!)

You're doing it wrong.

Saw a dude on a 650 Bonn'ie do a mint stand up wheelie up through the car park at Puke couple of years back. No helmet either. It was fucken cool.
