It's been said before, and I don't care, I'll say it again!
So in an effort to escape the depression that is exam study, I decided to go for a little ride today around the Christchurch hills. I started off my ride by going to the gas station and forgetting my wallet :pinch: Anyway after that I head out of town, go through Old Taitapu road, and turn off to head up Gebbies pass. I'm having a good ride, taking it pretty easy. Well it's a good thing I was taking it easy, going around one blind corner heading up Gebbies and some tard is half way accross on my side of the road. Luckily I was taking a very conservative line, or it could have been a head on.
Am I saying I'm a perfect rider? No. Am I saying all cagers are out to get us? No. I'm just a little pissed off though!
I did toot my horn, but the horns on these little CBRs can't be taken seriously. He probably thought I was saying hi.
Rant over.

I learnt back in 2005 that it's not a good idea to ride within a week of, or during your exams. I wasn't as fortunate as you, and ended up in the bushes with my 'new' R6 having sustained about $1600 worth of damage - doesn't put you in a good state of mind for studying towards, or passing exams.

Yeah I definitely agree that it's a bad idea to ride when you're in a shitty mood, but I was actually feeling pretty good this morning. Sorry to hear about your crash too :(

What's this WE bullshit about?
SOME motorcyclists are our/their own worst enemies.
Check yourself before you wreck yourself, and hope that others are doing the same.

This morning i was coming up to the intersection at the end of my road when a van comes from the left and makes a right turn straight across my lane and almost collects me. He saw me at the last second and had a rather sheepish look on his face. Forced me to ride through a thick mound of gravel as well so i wasn't too happy.

Know that road well. Ride it all the time. The other week I was cresting the very top of the pass with a mate ahead on his bike when the a van in front of the car in front of us suddenly pulled in to let the car past then swung straight out to block my mate's bike (no signal - deliberate action). I was all for following the wanker but my mate's more philosophical about these things. Anyway, wankers everywhere. You need eyes in your arse.

That's why I have fitted a Stebel Nautilus airhorn to the scooter - sometimes you need to let other road users know that they have PISSED YOU OFF!
The day after I fitted it I had someone in the lane next to me start to change lanes into my lane - gave the horn switch a press for a second or two and the car moved back into its lane, just my way of saying "try doing a head check before changing lanes you stupid bitch!"

That was one thing on the Triumph that was just pathetic. The 'neep-neep' horn. The Harley one's pretty bloody good but more is always better.

I can't understand how any motorcyclist who watches that video could possibly condone treating public roads like they are racetracks.

I have been here for nearly 2 months now and i gotta say the lane changing and crossing over round bends is appaling BUT having said that it,s still a pleasure to drive here compared to the UK you just gotta be a bit more defensive here which is hard cos the roads are so nice :woohoo:

True, I wasn't going all that fast, and like I said, was quite far to the left of my lane. Had I been over to the right of my lane though.....

One of the saddest stories that I have heard this year was when I was at Mt Eden Motorcycles, some learner on a Kawi 250 had a head on while he was stationary at the lights living behind a kid and wife. Far out, head on while stationary? That must suck, probably something out of Final destination:crybaby: .

Probably more common than you think. I was taken out a similar way earlier this year, however lucky enough to be surrounded by metal and airbags. Then a close call the other day in exactly the same place. Starting to think I should find another route home.

Yes, but before car drivers cop all the flak there are a number of bikes which do the same thing and startle the heck out of car occupants. Not to mention scaring the shit out of other bikers.
Lots of NZers have a shoddy attitude when they're out on the road regardless of their mode of transport.
Maybe ALL classes of license should be more stringent with the inclusion of having to watch footage of smashes as a mandatory part of the learning curve. Everyone always thinks "it won't happen to me" until it does.

Where the hell did anyone mention they like treating the road as a race track, are you so singularly focused you fail to read the posts in the thread?
Honestly you seem to believe that preaching like a broken record on KB you will alter the attitudes of those who do treat the road as a track in anyway, do you realise that those who ride bikes in this manner are of the same mind set as those who treat the road as a track in a car? There is a high likelihood they own a car and a bike, and drive/ride in a reckless manner regardless, they hangout with like minded idiots and can be seen drag racing down main streets etc on Friday nights.
They don't give a fuck about you, me, or anyone else, wake up a sniff the coffee, you want to actually do something, stand for parliament, work with BRONZ instead of spouting off criticisms, or just do something productive in reality, perhaps you could run some free training sessions seeing as you are so fucking good.
Sorry Tom to hijack like that but this guy has pissed me of once to often with his self righteous attitude, I kinda wish I was taking that trip with you guys just so I could find the prick and deck him.

Perhaps you need to go back and re-sit Comprehension 101.
I haven't said that anyone has condoned treating the road as a racetrack in this thread.
Are you so singularly focused that you have to read words into what I've written that aren't even there?

Becuase many motorcyclists dont geddit. They watch the video and go, that would never happen to me, I would never do something that stupid and then go out and get all hyped up and do what they said they wouldnt. Some call it passion, some call it stupdity.

Half the reason the responsible people on here sound like broken records is that many a motorcycle doesnt comprehen/fails to comprehend/doesnt fucking want to comprehend the stupidity of their actions and only a broken record telling them over and over again will maybe....MAYBE over time, start to intorduce the thought of repsonisbility into a riders head.

I fail to see how a complete stranger from behind a computer screen will be able to change a human being's personality and attitudes, something that psychiatrists, counselors and prisons attempt... And how many prisoners re-offend?
It's not the 'riders' who are the problem, it's the person.
Give motorcyclists a break

Actually responsible folks I have seen here seem to realise its the internet, fuck all done or said here will change actions of others and are actually getting out there and doing something about the issue, offering training, engaging with other motorcyclist, and helping out in local events and rides by being supportive of newer riders.
Its his sanctimonious, self righteous bull shit in unrelated threads that pisses me off, especially when he has no one has anywhere made mention a particularly stupid act is cool or in any way glorious. I also love the comments he makes about crashes, other peoples off etc with out knowing the details, roads, conditions etc.

I made a point of saying that I wasn't trying to blame car drivers for everything, and that I'm not claiming to be a perfect rider. So I'm not sure what the point of your post was. Unless you were simply re enforcing my point.

I once lead a wednesday night ride around the summit road, 2x camper vans and a huge 4wd decided my side of the road was the place to be.
jump on the horn, give the finger.
if anything had happened he'd have had a nasty collision with his windshield, then again...and again and again and again and again and again
