I been quitting for ages. The first time I quit I had a sneaky cig thinking it'll just be one. Of course Two years later still "quitting".
Hanging out with other smokers makes it hard too.
My employee smokes and it makes ciggies easy to get.
Of course the fear of the missus is helping to quit<_<

its no big deal , my cravings havnt been hard to deal with, and now I'm off the patch, I can go through the day fine without pulling my hair out cause I need one.
Just been getting REALLY down on random shit..... apparently its normal,

I found that I felt like shit for awhile as well, and I was even more grumpy than normal.
It does pass, but not quickly.
I still get cravings especially if I smell someone smoking the same brand I smoked.

Allow yourself a fair while before things go back to normal......Stick with it, it's well worth seeing through.
Smoked all my life and gave up 10 years ago..
My bikes I paid for with my ashtray money......good motivator!

Gave up about 4 years ago.
It is all in your head, you are only getting mood swings because you think you will.
Eat raw carrots, they are good for you and your mood swings will stop soon enough.
If all else fails: think of the money you are saving!
Oh and don't be surprised if you start to feel a bit out of breath, your lungs it is just your lungs re-adjusting.

I've been off for over 35 years now.
You are at the most difficult stage. The bit where you wonder if it is worth it.
Learn to breath (correctly) to reduce the stress.
PM me if need be.

im dealing with the cravings fine, but getting some nasty mood swings and waves of depression. :-( sucks ballsRemember you are doing the right thing. It's tough, yeah, but this IS what you want. It's all going in the right direction, you just have to let a few days go by, and magically it will get better and better.
Drink lots of water and take lots of quality breaks where you can put your brain in neutral for a while and gaze at the ground, sky, water, rocks etc.
It's a bit tough and it feels like forever, but it isn't, and looking back it will seem like no time at all.
Get some support if you can.. if someone can bring you a cuppa and a favourite snack and ask "whats up?" and only listen.. this helped a lot for me. Some days its all we need anyway.

That's good to hear, my doc wouldn't give en to me, he reckoned they were a waste of time but I've heard quite a few people give em the thumbs up.
As a serial giver upper, I know how hard it can be Rodney007, however, I went to a hypnotist a few months back for some help. As it turns out I never got hypnotized, just counseled as to the route cause of my addiction.
Sounds naff eh but I tell you what it's been circa three months and counting and I've never found quitting easier, no mood swings no cravings and my pocket seems to have money in it all the time.
Onya for giving it a go.

You will, but it does take time. I smoked for 10 years or so, 40/day, gave up 20 years ago and have not had one since.
once ya get your head around the idea that your giving up its easy,
That's the truth - you have to be really definite that you are no longer a smoker. Giving up has to really change you - it's not temporary. Being a smoker is not who you are.
cheers guys , really appreciate that and il keep my head up!
and eat some carrots :D
Good luck. You can do this. Exercise also helps, btw.

I quit when my first kid was born.

I did that very same thing 20 years (my first born is now 20) I put a half packet of smokes on top of the firdge the day she was born and that was it. Cold turkey is for real men!...:girlfight:
It lasted 6 years
Im not a big smoker, 20 will last a day and a half. No smoking in the house, no smoking in the car.

Try everything Rodney. The patches worked for me too! All 3 times I gave up! But once you have gotten over the cravings you need to find something else as a replacement/reward for giving up. This is where all the money you are saving comes in. $10 a day for a year is a lot of dosh if you look at it that way, find an expensive hobby! Or treat yourself to an overseas holiday! Good luck with it too!

Tobacco is not addictive. Just don't smoke, it's not that hard.Uh yeah it is. Harder than giving up wanking.
Try to get off the topic too.. Do something really interesting - bike or car project or something.

Another tip... set your self a goal something like "If i'm good until ... then I will..."
Make it something that you really can look forward to doing so that if you are feeling crabby you can think about it and it will make you happy. Kind of like the carrot and the donkey
I used the 2006 Rusty Nuts Grand Challenge as my carrot (as well as eating lots of carrots). I did the GC (it was my 4th) and i did it again this year partially because I am still not smoking.

yaha 6 months now. I was a 20 a day easy...if I was drinking could easily do 2 packs. Only way I managed to quit was going to a hypnotist....it worked!!!
I still have the odd craving but by the time I think more indepth about it - it's gone. I believe if I can give up anyone can.
Personally I have days now that I still can't believe I don't smoke...but it's hugely rewarding not being ruled by that cig.
Good luck....and only you can do it and know when it's the right time

After 2 minutes the addictive chemical nicotine is gone
After 3 days your free of any chemicals
Anything longer than that is purely psychological.
Dont make the mistake of cutting down or using gum or patches - your simply drawing out the agony of the addictive chemical.
I did not quit anything - I stopped smoking. Quite different, I was not giving anything up. I stopped smoking almost a year ago now - no cravings, no withdrawals. I just stopped. I had been a smoker for 8 years.
If after 3 days your feeling anything other than fantastic I suggest you read Allen Carrs - Easy Way to Stop Smoking.
Edited for copyright reasons.

of course, It even takes a certain kind of personality / mind set to start smoking, I remeber my first smoke made me sick , I had a headache and threw up, god knows why I kept going,
the thing is it becomes a habbit! like clicking my knuckles,,,, wheres the addictive chemical in that? it gives such little pleasure yet It seems near impossible to shake it!,
I used patches, to shake the habbit of lighting up, and to give my lungs a break from all the toxins inside the smoke. before i stoped completely,
I was lucky and had only minor cravings, but get the random emotion mood swings... :-( but after reading heaps about how its quite normal (for some not all) due to chemical balances and withdrawls.. made me feel alot better knowing what the cause was..and that others were going through the same!

It takes approximately a month to break a 'habit' - there has been some quite famous studies done on how the brain works regarding habits.
Long story short - if you make a mental effort not to click your knuckles for a month you will no longer do it. Think of it as the time it takes your brain to re-wire itself.

Quit 9mnths ago. Found out i was preggas so it was an easy decision. But of all my nasty habbits it was ciggs i missed the most. Got very stroppy for a while, and after a stressful day of screaming baby i could go straight back to them. But i wont, they were hard to leave behind and i dont want to do it again.
Big ups for quiting. One day at a time, and treat yourself with every milestone you reach. And try not to commit a murder.lol:innocent:

I never really got hooked, same as another 1 or 2 of my mates. we could smoke 2 packs a day for a week in the holidays and could stop the next day with no cravings, when another friend would be craving hard out. This was when i was in 3rd form, i'll tell you what makes you stop and thats your mum busting you sitting in your wardrobe rolling
Just remember that you'll live longer, and be happier
