I'm on Shortland St in the city but want to ride somewhere that's 20 mins or so out of the city (N/E/S/W) so I get a decent ride in, it's so nice out and I hate being stuck in the air conditioned office!!!

1. Along the waterfront to Bastion point, nice reserve & grassy bits to frolic in.
2. Over the bridge, off at Takapuna then down to Takapuna beach, Devonport or up Mount Victoria.
3. Mount Eden..as previously suggested, bikes can get past the road blocks DAMHIK.
4. Towards Westhaven marina, follow the access road around to the club houses / buildings at the bridge end, find a sunny spot & watch the boats go by.
5. Old Auckland City workshops to Deus Ex Machina, you can sit outside and there is coffee & bikes (a bit pretentous for me).

Along Tamaki Drive all the way to St heliers, then onto Riddell Road up to glendowie School, turn round and go back, Riddell road = niiiiice and twisty but is residential. I work on Shortland street but dont know how long it takes sorry.

20min from the city I reckon one of the best places to sneak off for lunch would be Orewa. Took someone up there the other day between lectures, grabbed some wedges and a milkshake and then almost fell asleep on the beach lying in the sun.

Go a little bit further and you have a huge array of beaches to pick from!!! Me and a couple of mates had an arvo off school years ago about this time and thought it'd be time to kick off the summer swimming in the sea, we decided to make ourselves a challenge to get to as many beaches as possible that arvo. We drove to and SWAM at 11 beaches that day in about 2 hours, was awesome fun!!! Yet we ended up only 30/40 min from the city.

Shit I'm so doing that again actually, after exams! Be fun to do that around the coro!

You must have been pushing pretty hard to get out of the central city, onto the motorway, and up to Orewa in 20 minutes. 30-45 would be a much better estimate dependant on the traffic flow and how you ride (how fast you cruise, how fast you are prepared to lane-split) and who close you are to an on-ramp at the city end.

If you've got the time to do Orewa, then add a few minutes and carry on along the tollway to Puhoi. The tavern does fantastic cheap pub food. Real pub food, non of the fancy expensive stuff that's written on a menu in a language other than English (or American for that matter).

Depends on how many red lights you get really. I wouldn't count on much less than 35mins from downtown to Orewa. Could easily turn into 45mins even with no traffic depending on where in town you are if you get bad lights.
