Well i guess it had to happen, riding at a mates farm today i accidently grabbed a handfull of 450 throttle which had disasterous results.
Chain of events as follows.
Lofting front wheel over a slight rise, grabbed said handfull of throttle
Turned slight rise into a launching pad
Took off like a rocket
Cleared the farm track by about a metre
Proceeded down a rough as guts 3-4 metre drop off
Front wheel dug in cartwheeling bike(and me of course)
End result broken collarbone(well smashed really)bone fragments everywhere.
The one positive is the bike came through it with just a broken front number board.............i'm sore and gutted cause i'm gonna miss some good rides!!!!!

dude i know those pains oh-too-well, the fastest way to heal i found was just to keep moving, even just going for a walk helps aye, keeps the blood flowing an full of oxygen. i was riding again after 5 weeks after my last episode. lucky with the bike only breaking the number plate tho.

Too late man....when your at hospital in pain the last thing on my mind was making up bullshit stories to put on an ACC form(that i couldn't even fill out myself).......i feel for you Roadies getting tucked by the government but as i said earlier i contribute plenty in ACC levys so i'm not gonna start lying on official forms and end up getting myself in the shit

Foo, that sounds like a pretty scary get-off! Underpants damage as well?
Better a snapped collar bone than a snapped neck though. Get well soon, +1 on 4 stroke's suggestion for good healing, moving around as much as poss as soon as you're able. Eat good quality food as well.

Hey mate just an aside! Do you reckon a vs Neck brace may have saved you at all??
I wear my EVS all the time. There is some rumor that the Leatt ones break collar bones but the EVS goes right over the shoulder, and I recon would help. they say its actually your helmet that breaks them?

Interesting LOL!!!

Yeah i did wonder that Reckless as i don't wear one, although it was a pretty gnarly crash....may have to think about a neck brace in the future as i landed square on my head and shoulder....and the mate who saw it said he thought "f**k he's broken his neck*

I've wondered if the bottom edge of helmets break collar bones as well. Where did you hear that Reckless, anyone else know more about this?

(Can't afford a brace at the moment but maybe a 'neck nut' not as quite as useless as I thought?)

Broke my collarbone 3 weeks ago wearing an EVS neckbrace.. Snapped the bone right in half. Haven't tried the brace back on since then but would be interesting to see if the break lines up with the edge of the brace on not.
I feel your pain green machine.. You having surgery? Mine is just healing with a lumpy overlap.

I feel ya pain mate, your story reminds me somewhat of my Saturday arvo aswell! A not quite returned whip from the first of two doubles turned into a bad bounce heading into the second which resulted in me jumping off the side of the jump and crash landing on a bit of a mound no where near where i wanted to be, I was thrown upon landing and ended up down the bank dazed as all hell with a twisted hip, cracked ribs and hurting all over!

The prospect of missing riding for a while really blows huh?

There can't be many MX swimsuit models left out there, my modeling days are over too...lumpy shoulder syndrome gets us all eventually I guess.......

my last collabone lines up with the edge of my helmet, but mine broke on the joint to my sternum tho. ive herd that the neck braces just transfer the damage out further?

That sucks to hear mate! Hope you get back to full strength soon.

I've just been given the all clear to start riding from today, cant race for another 6 weeks. But the specialist is happy for me to start trainining again.

Usual patients are out for 3+ months, but ive been hardout strengthening my leg n stuff. Worked out good :D!

First ride out at the Sandpit tomorrow, whos keen :D?

I suppose only the rider will no if he took a big blow on the shoulder to snap the collar bone or it was an impact on the helmet that caused it. Thats if you can even remember exactly how it happened at all!! LOL!!
