View Full Version : Wellington: Kapiti Coast weekly rides? Anyone keen?

Just putting feelers out to see who might be interested...Seems that the 2 weekly rides that are closest to me are the Manawatu and Welly rides...both too far away to do weekly rides for me, and I am guessing there are others like me scattered along the coast.

If there is interest then it would be nice to set up rides on maybe a Wednesday night...If you are keen then please post and we can get the ball rolling

Regards,
Bren

Depends on what time. I live at Mana (which of course isn't really Kapiti - but nearly!) and never in a million years would I make it over to the Hutt to the start time of the Wednesday ride, so at the moment I pretty much ride on my own. Wouldn't mind having an option of one on this side of the hills, depending on start times.

Darryn had sort of started this off alil, tho only the 2 of use showed there where others with interest.

see http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=110924

But if you arrange a ride i,m keen also, seems ALOT of us kapiti folk ride solo everywhere. be good to have a group of people to txt on any given day for a ride, just a thought.

Oh, so welly ride is on a wed night? I had the idea it was thursday night...or is there a Hutt ride as well as a welly crowd. I am so used to Christchurch rides meeting at 6pm and heading off at 6.30 but Christchurch is a small city...maybe a 7pm start time would be better suited for kapiti as it extends over a larger area...The next thing is organising a good night that does not clash with other rides so that there is an option for people to attend a ride in one place one night then a ride in another another night....

Hey, I love group riding and if there is a set night every week then I am keen...Paraparaumu is probably the best place to meet, maybe outside Pak n Save or something like that (any suggestions?)

Weekend rides are also good...love a good sunday arvo ride..

Okay just did a search....Why did I not do that before?????

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=110608

Seems like if a weekly evening ride was set up then Thursday is the night thats best as it does not clash with welly wed and Palmy fri night cruises...

So, I am going to put my neck out and propose the first Kapit Coaster Cruise commence on Thursday the 5th November at 7pm. meeting at Pak n Save in Paraparaumu Sels has mentioned in the other thread about some riders from Kapiti joining the Welly ride on Wed night, so for a Kapiti Ride I think Wed is out..

A few of us from Kapiti ride down to the cruisy Wed nite ride that meets at Avalon park. Normally meet at Mobil Param around 5pm. Check the thread
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=106876

But it might be a good idea for Kapiti riders to get together sometime as the numbers are growing - maybe a meet at Gordys Bar one night ? with a ride first...?

any more ideas on this????

Would it be alright for someone like myself who is getting their L plate on monday (not this monday but next one coming) to build up experience on?

Thats part of what these rides are for... Young riders tend to be mentored to a degree by the more experienced. It is also an opportunity to get together and discuss whatever is on their minds,

As far as routes are concerned I dont know as I am relatively new to Kapiti so suggestions are welcome. Maybe the first ride should go over the Paekakariki Hill...Hopefully the ride will end up at a pub or cafe for a drink or two. Anyway it is totally open to discussion...I will start a new thread specifically for thursday night rides...

I,m keen for the weekly ride, however i may have to miss the 5th as i,m going to be waiting on a part for me bike dropped alil while ago and seems its being a typical triumph and leaking :0) No wounder they last so long the lube em selfs with oil.

I would say Pac N Sav may not be the best as there would be afew older people doing their shopping that get nervous with bikes around and I don't wana be near nervous cage drivers they are bad enough when they are oblivous.
Maybe nearer to the werehouse or even noel leaming would be alil safer ?

As for where to go I,m happy with any hill on anything really I,m in it for the riding.

For those younger riders I,m no pro but I am more than happy to lend a hand and try teach some of the things I have learnt along the way with my rideing. If you guys want some slow paced rides send me a pm i,m happy to help. For advice this would be my first and what I would concider the most important .

... TAKE YOU AND YOUR BIKE TO A TRACK DAY ...

Now keep in mind your not there to win racers or be the new rossi, go to one join the beginers group put yourself at the back of the dummy grid (where you line up to go on the track) take it easy and build yourself up slowly you don't need to go fast for any one so drop the ego and enjoy.

I did just this after spending 3 months riding a cbr400 around and I learnt more in that one track day about my skill and the bikes ability than I did in the 3 months.

I remember a young guy on a cbr400rr eyeing me up on the dummy grid looking me up and down because i had a cbr to ... needless to say he got on the track and blasted past me, i just stuck to my own pace ....
I will never forget the look on his face at the end of the day when he was standing there with his parents as they had come with the trailer to pick up his destroyed bike he dropped at the end of the straight when he went to fasted into the hairpin.

Good point about Pak n Save....so the southernmost part of the carpark will be better...out by the warehouse...

Im in also. It seems the same old problem Thursday suits some riders Wednesday others. Another idea I would like to through back in the pot is alternating days each week. e.g Thursday 5th next one maybe Wednesday 11th that way we can keep everybody happy or at least see how it goes

Darryn, we are close enough in Kapiti to join the Welly weekly rides and they are on a wed night. I myself would like it to be one set day, that takes out confusion from the matter.....there is also a possibility of weekend rides if any one is keen...

Palmy rides are on a friday as well, so that cuts out that day...there may be some crossover where we see welly riders or palmy riders come over for the odd ride in Kapiti, and I also intend to do welly and palmy rides on occasion

Hi Bren. Happy with what your saying and agree in regards to people riding to Lower Hutt to attend Wellington rides on Wednesdays if they please. Both days are not a issue for me as I work locally but I personally wouldn't want to invest 40 minutes or 1H20M return just to get to a ride start point unless it was maybe a day ride. Would rather invest that time in a local area start point. I'm sure we have enough Kapiti area riders to support a local group. Weather permitting I will be there on Thursday night

Well I'm more likely to be up for a Sunday arvo ride as usually have stuff on weeknights and as my bikes my daily ride ( kapiti - welly ) theres usually only enough petro $$$ left for one extra ride.
Will keep eye out . and will shout out if I'm going for a ride anyday
