Bike choice for learners?

Hi when ever i read this part of the forum a good 70% of the time it is about what first bike i should get.

Is there a write up somewhere that has all this information that could be made a sticky?

Or someone that has just brought there first bike and has done a lot of research that could possible do a write up for the rest of the newbies?

It's a matter of what YOU like, what fits you, and what you can afford. If there was one bike that was the perfect learners' ride, a lot of manufacturers would be out of business.

I think a GSXR 750 is a good choice.
It has the same low down rush of a 1000cc but not the same rush above 260km/h.
The best bit is that it behaves like a bigger bike, for example, the front end will get light under acceleration and too much herbs will make the back spin a little if you are leaned riiight over. On saying that they also have massivly powerful brakes with which to cover up your lack of speed control, and may jusssst be enough to make that instant loss of licence into a smaller $560 fine...

I vote for a sticky in the newbie bikers section.

It needs to mention pretty much all of the learner bikes, and categorize them into the upright singles (easiest), upright twins (easy peasy), the dropped-bar vwtins (more difficult to U turn etc) to the inline fours, to the 150cc two strokes, to the 250cc two strokes, etc. edit: its pretty clear I have left a lot out.. dual purpose bikes etc..

Alternatively, a smaller sticky pointing at a wiki page. This would be a lot more flexible.

it also needs to have things like

good for fat people, short people, tall people , more advanced learners ie have ridden mx bikes and things like that.

The GN250 WAS a good learner bike, when style was not important, now they are just Butt Ugly!!!

No, My first bike was a CBR400, but it didnt have enough balls to loop wheelies or highside or anything, so i didnt actually learn much from it.
The 750 was mint, did everythign a bike is supposed to, like looping wheelies, highsiding, runners, eating rear tyres.... EVERYTHIGN

Otherwise the search funtion is the only other option - but it brings up way too many threads by typing in "learner bike".

Go straight for the bike you really want, skip the small bikes.

The bike goes as fast as you make it go remember that. Better brakes and tyres on "real" bikes mean you are safer than on a 250 with bicycle sized tyres.

Don't listen to the people who tell you anything over 600 will kill you, bad decisions when you are on the road kill, not the bike you are using.

The only issues are potential fines and no insurance, I made it through the 12 months on a 1k by being sensible and not pushing the limits. If you are a freak on the road and can't control your speed; then don't ride at all imo.

I think some people are slightly confused here. Im not looking for a learner bike i already have a rgv250 and a R6. I was just tired of seeing so many " what learner bike should i get" post and thought we could sum it all up into one page or something along those lines.
