Hi all,

needing to get the Prila wof'd, but have a leaky fork seal... bit of a bummer really as the leak started to happen after 1800k's... not a good life span i know and certainly not wof'able if i leave it the way it is...

To a certain degree price is a factor as i need a full-service, wof, warrant, riding jacket, pant, boots!!! otherwise i would send it up to CKT to get done as i'd like slightlier heavier springs as i'm bottoming out when i slam on the anchors...

Yes, so anyway if i get the fork seal changed will i guess i'll need the same oil weight as is in the other fork? does best practice say that both forks need to be done at the same time? I only have just over 2500k's since the forks last underwent a service, so would really not like to have to fork out (no pun intended) shitloads of cash again...

Any thoughts etc???

If they're bottoming out, that suggests to me this isn't doing the seals any favours, and you'd be better off shelling out to have the forks sorted properly. You won't regret it.

I was told that the seals that went in where about the best i could get for the Prila and should last a bloody long time... hey ho...

I did have a look at the seals and they look fine (well externally there's no muntering), and look very clean... i don't mono... and there's not enough oil coming out that it's pooling anywhere... the fork itself is very smooth and there's no scoring (that fook for that)... so looks like the service may have to wait, or the new bike gear... kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place as per fookin usual... I'll have to scope out the cost of new springs then!!!

I would say if do both at same time.

springs should be only a couple hundred, be it racetech/ohlins springs.

Seems that i don't have much choice in the matter really, although i'm hesitant as i've dropped a few kg's over the last few months and it looks like the spring rates should be fine... although the springs may be fed up with my fat ass after 22000k's of braking... looks like the Motty will be some time away... AGAIN!!!

hey John... i know what ya mean, although i kinda grudge getting new seals after only 2500k's... especially if i end up with the same "best" seals... it's just all money... i had some about a month ago, the wife stole some for the new house UGH!!! but then there was enough for me to get a full service, Motty AFR, rear sets, pack rack and new bike gear (which i do really need) as i'd done a little extra work on the side for that... bloody typical this little expense rears it's head...

I never said i couldn't, i just would prefer not to revisit the forks after only having done 2,500k's on them... shit happens i guess... but thanks for the reality check, i just don't know where i would have been without such sage advice... :innocent:

What were the seals that were fitted and who installed them? ( Brand, colour? )
What oil was installed?
What do you clean the fork sliders with?
How often are you bottoming out?
