Dame I do not think I can make it to start point by 6:30pm, was looking forward to this one, hope you have a dry ride.

Shame you missed it mate. It was a good ride and some great backroads. Sadly it was a fairly wet ride despite the great efforts by our forecast researchers pre-departure. I for one was soaked through by the time I got home well after 10pm.

Like Darryn said, some of those roads would be fabulous in dry weather.

I bet Im not the first person on KB to put wet weather gear on after its rained, Caught out big time, Not as bad as some though. I heard mention that wets were at home in wardrobe. I immediately felt much better.

Considering the conditions 7 hardcore riders turned up
Even after the best of planning we got slammed with rain between Shannon and Himitangi

Some can get depressed others can make use of certain situations

Cam decided he would make use of the time and wash his t shirt during the ride by leaving his vents open on his jacket
Mark decided to wash himself and his iphone although it seemed to be deeply asleep and wouldn't wake when we stopped for a drink afterwards (I think its on its way back to recovery)
I decided to wash the insides of my boots by leaving my leggings tucked into them and thinking the slipstream will hold off the water (I was wrong - again)

You just can't beat experience and boy doesn't wet roads change your riding style - I think most of us experience a slip or slips somewhere on the ride but we all survived

Nice back road up that way (Shannon via Okuku Road - Opiki) and looking forward to trying it again in the dry

Do you always tuck your pants into your socks Darryn?????????????????

Yeah it was a balls-out ride with that weather. I had one front end slip and two rear end slides. Great to get my washing done though.

I wasn't complaining that it was wet...... I turned up and rode in the rain anyway! The visor was so dirty with road grime I had to stop and clean it. Visibility and slippery roads were a pain but it was still a good ride and some great roads. Would just be more fun in the dry.

Looks like the weather will be okay this Thursday.

Fun ride with hard case group - others always welcome as long as you can laugh :niceone:
A few stories or laughs to be had during or after the ride. Sels - Can't wait for your next story as the actions you add will keep me smiling for weeks afterwards. You were let down by Chris missing the catch of your beer in the process but we can work on improving his reaction speed, hold on just remembered he does ride a Triumph that had a bladder problem when surrounded by other stationary riders
Cams (aka Toaster) is now in charge of off-route sightseeing. Actually I'm also a bit jealous about not doing that road for a look see myself
Garth has learned to never follow my line until I can repaint one of those corner centre lines
Hard case outing and adventure

Darryn, I think you need to stop using diesel in your bandit. I thought you were going to follow me over Haywards??!! hehehehe........

Diesel Its cheaper than that unleaded stuff you put in yours and if you warm it up its a great cologne
Mate I tried but tonight you were a man possessed and since I have no yearly membership for "get off a ticket" or a "beep beep theres a man ahead with a ticket book who could ruin your night" device I thought better for it
Was a nice ride around the bays but boy its getting dark a little quicker than it use to
Should I remind you that it was me waiting at that intersection (while you and Mark did your own sightseeing tour again) ensuring your presence at the drink stop
What are you doing on the net anyway I thought you still had to negotiate your riding time with your wife
My turn to giggle - hehehe

Thanks all once again for a great ride. I Didn't enjoy the first hour or so, as was getting used to the heavy old Nine, and Grays Road was taken very cautiously, but loved going round the bays, and the blast back, but heard this strange noise in my helmet, Like kind of whistling. Never noticed it before, wasn't going any faster than usual. Any ideas Darryn?

Did notice on the way back that painted on speedo digits don't illuminate from behind, and the bulb in the 0-60mph zone is blown. All good fun.

Toaster
5th March 2010, 15:46
Yeah it was a good ride over and back. Yet another detour getting lost in the dark, but hey, its all part of the adventure.

Close call with that stock truck changing lanes into my lane. Emergency braked to avoid becoming a burger patty. What is it with me and livestock.... first cows, then sheep, then rabbits and now a whole cattle truck??!!

Keen for a ride over the weekend sometime, not sure when as visitors arrive friday and not sure when they leave.

There is an organised ride on sat coming up from welly if you are intersted....

Meeting at the Duckpond from 7:30am, leaving at 8am

If anyone would like to hook in at Pauhatanui we should be going past at around 8:15am, just gather in the carpark outside the dairy etc and we shall pull in.

Head over the Paekakariki Hill and off Waikanae, if anyone would like to hook in there, just wait outside New World in SH1 and we shall pull in at around 9am, then head straight to Manakau, arriving at 10am for breakfast. If there is anyone else that would like to hook in at any point, just look for a group going past with a big red and white ZX10 with black pannier boxes, and then just pull in behind us. If you go through Levin, you're with the wrong group.

Please post up whether you will be having breakfast by Friday so I can let Peter and Michelle know how many are coming as they are opening early especially for us.

The pace of this ride will be casual slow to allow for those with lesser experience.

Peoples from the Manawatu are more then welcome to meet us there at 10.

For those who don't know where the duck pond is (Avalon Park, Lower Hutt), go along the Western Hutt Road (Motorway, SH2) and take the Avalon turn off. Go across the bridge and pull into the carpark on the Left (its not hard too miss).

After breakfast, those who are wanting to, can then join in for a ride over the Paihiatua Track, then go through Mangamarie, Mauriceville and head out to Martinborough for Lunch. From there, the world is your oyster.

Hi there Cam
Good on ya
That Vinegar Hill is a pearler ride and great stuff taking a group on Sunday
Sorry I missed it as I was up at a locksmithing conference in Napier
After a few drinks on Saturday night at the Bluewater Hotel I came up with a plan to explore the Napier to Taihape Road (The Gentle Annie) on the way home Sunday as another locksmith mate from Wanganui had also ridden up on his Honda VTR
Its a must ride and dont be put off with the 26km of gravel as its well worth the effort
Took us around 1 hour 45 minutes for that stage
Wouldn't mind doing it again from the Taihape side but thats another cunning possible weekend group ride idea for the future :msn-wink:

Catch ya Thursday night all going well

Forgot to add about last Thursdays ride
The confirmed insane are Cam, Phil, Malcolm and myself
At a guess we rode in rain for about 20% of the ride but hey the gear got a well deserved clean
The Blue Mountains and Whitemans Valley was a blast but would be even better on a finer day
Moonshine Road at night time in the rain is a new experience and luckily I managed to stop myself from pulling over and slashing my wrists to take the pain away
Maybe it was that rabbit which popped onto the road and then insisted on drag racing Phil that helped
Catch ya at the next one

Hi there Cam
Can confirm next weeks ride will be Blue Mountains and Whitemans Valley
What time on Sat am are you thinking about venturing out as I can possibly escape and replace my presence at home with a cardboard cutout holding a tv remote and sitting on a chair in the lounge

Even open it up for a ride for all who also waste life in front of our computers at this hour

Well funny you should mention that, Never been to the Blue Mountains Harley Cafe (we'll hide the motorbike badges and spray some chrome on the bikes) will totally put them off the scent and by not showering in the morning
I'll leave Waikanae 9:30 ish and should be Pauatahanui carpark around 10 ish.
Does that suit?

Thankfully engine didn't get damaged, otherwise adding oil to the equation would have been a different story. Tyre survived ok, I assume that with me using the front brake kept a lot of weight off the rear, although about halfway through the skid the rear started to squirm, so the feet went down to steady me.

And adrenaline is brown BTW

Well, the cadillac diner gets my thumbs up, and am thinking next spring we should organise a ride that ends up there, maybe with both Kapiti and Hutt riders, and totally fill the place, and the street outside with bikes...sort of make it like the Ace Cafe of the Hutt, they definately seemed biker friendly there...seems to be a place that the Fonz would roll up to on his Triumph Trophy...

Wind???!!! Haha nah, though it was a cool southerly we hit coming through the wairarapa yesterday, was totally under dressed for that blast !
All hail saddlebags i say , just so happened i had a wind break and some leggings stashed, so warm as toast after our carterton brunch !

But flag my comments about heading north ! Just seen the build up comming into Otaki so wouldn't like to be heading in a southerly direction at all today !

Sweet.

Will make a stop point at top of Paekakariki Hill to sort out destination from there.

A beautiful Kapiti afternoon, quick fang over the Paekak hill and a cup of coffee , what a great way to wind up the holiday weekend. Cheers Cam, see you at the next ride.

You are welcome Mark. It was a perfect day for a ride. Had a nice wee power-slide leaving the cafe. I think I had too much caffeine in my Latte-bowl!

I am keen to make the next ride over to the short straw cafe. Would probably need another hour or so for the extra distance from Kapiti.

Counting down. Daylight saving starting 26th September. Suggest first possible Thursday night ride to be on the 30Th Sept. Usual meeting place Warehouse Carpark South end. 6.00 leave around 6.30. Possibly still a bit dark to leave for ride at 7 pm. Any ideas for a route much appreciated, Just not Aka Hill Road. Broke the Duc :doh:on the last attempt.
