Finally!

A subject in the media you know somethng about.

Now you see how the game works.

All these guys who know nothing about anything using their skills to bullshit you into believeing they are credible.

Hoskyns has a big head.

No really, his head is physically too large for his little body.

That's why he's a broadcaster and not a journalist. Hosking's very similar to Paul Holmes - short, smarmy and sexually confused.

Unfortunately, yes a BIG audience - He replaced Paul Holmes on Newstalk ZB when he retired from the breakfast show (No1 spot) last year. ZB have been voted No1 in Auckland (again) then second place was behind by 30% (crikey!)

No, I dont think so. It is not a sentence explaining what you want to do to him, it is not a sentence that explains what you think about him, it is only one word. Should be fine

Use a 16 point, bold font though, so he really gets the message :innocent:

I did hear him throw in a comment at the end of his talk with the acting PM (Bill English?) after 8.00am yesterday along the lines of "If rugby players had rego tags attached the government (ACC) could tax them too".
It was after English had disconnected so no reply. A seed of apprehension for a few people?

The Radio Network consists of commercial stations only. A wholly corporate enterprise - no government influence there.

Don't tar an entire company with the same brush as the one for a smarmy little prick. It's all about ratings people - trust me, there's no agenda.

Pretty sure they were both married .... there was chemistry between them, rumors started.

He took time off work to "chill out".

My email to him was...

I listened to your anti motorcycle rant this morning on the drive into work, in my car.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and in a democracy it is accepted that we need to be tolerant of others choices and opinions as long as they are within the law. However, as a broadcaster you must be aware that your opinion may unduly influence a great many people. The blind acceptance of the figures quoted by ACC is potentially a problem for your stance and a source of embarassment to a professional journalist. Even a curosry inpection demonstrates that ACC and Dr Smith are overstating the case and the numbers just don't add up. I'd suggest you talk to the anti acc groups for a more balanced point of view.

There are some serious issues here and if we take your argument to its logical conclusion, I already subsidise my own bike because I register 2 cars as well as a vintage motorcycle. In 35 years of riding I've never submitted an ACC claim or an insurance claim on a motorcycle and managed to rack up 2 traffic tickets (in 35 years)

Why should I subsidise other motorcyclists or for that mater people who drive drunk in cars? Thats not fair. Indeed, I don't go rock climbing or cycling either so why am I pinged for that? ACC was set up to ignore these imbalances to provide a decent cover for all, essentially what you and ACC are describing is a private 'risk based' scheme which frankly wouldn't trouble me in the least as I'm a very low risk.

Lumping all 'motorcyclists' in together is painfully unfair. For example, I have a 39 year old 650cc british motorcycle, I've put 20 years of effort into it and it is used carefully because I have to repair it if it breaks. Yet I get taxed at the top rate (over 600cc)... How is that 'fair'...

I'm sorry but your tirade really just got right up my nose but don't worry about it, my radio has a tuning facility and its now set to miss your station completely!

Frankly I don't give a toss about his sexuality or his opinion except his show is not a talk back so we have no right of response and he was quoing opinion as 'fact'. I think his excuse above is very lame.

Anyway - feel free to email the station and make your displeasure known.

Perhaps you could support his position but say it does not go far enough. Everyone should pay their way! People who contract HIV / AIDS are a huge drain on the health system and gay men of course are a high risk group. Lets extend the argument and get them to pay extra health taxes....

But we'd be looking for National. Hauraki and Mums and dads.

There is a committee meeting tomorrow night.

All I want to say at the meeting is we could get X number of spots for Y Dollars.

You really expected any reason or objectivity from Newstalk?

Occasionally I get briefly 'stuck' listening to it when I fill in at another location at work. It makes me want to stab myself in the head with a rusty blade...especially Leighton Smith.

If you've got to have news in the morning [with at least an attempt at objectivity] there is only one - Radio NZ National.

They're not perfect [Their coverage of the BRONZ meeting wasn't good] but they don't rely on ads or intellectually bankrupt populist ranting...

Sadly, NZ has the second lowest level of per-capita public broadcasting funding in the OECD. Sometimes it shows. But it's still the best 'objective' news in any NZ medium. Sigh. I dream of a NZ version of the Beeb...
