So i ordered some bolts for the fairings from www.bikebolts.com as they had been mentioned several times on the ninja250 board and i thought i would take advantage of the current exchange rate.
This was about 2 weeks ago. After the first week i emailed them as there had been no word on my order. I get this as a response
Hi,
Your order was shipped and is in transit. It was delayed due to a part stock. The tracking number shows no information yet. You can track your order form the USPS website at www.usps.com, go to track and confirm and enter: ##############
Sorry for any inconvenience...
Thank you,
The USPS site says
The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on October 21, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.
And it has stayed that way for a week now. Starting to get annoyed! Just sent them another email so should get a reply tomorrow.
Is it really that bad for me to order something and expect it to be shipped straight away? Or to be notified if something is out of stock straight away? Starting to feel like i have been ripped off now!
Have ordered something else from the states today wonder if that will show up.
Anyone else have any troubles ordering from the good old U.S of A?

I get heaps from the states. Mostly from z1 enterprises.
Never had a problem with postage.
Normaly stuff takes less than a week to get here.
The only issue can be the cost of postage.

I've had this message before and still there a week after the goods arrived!
Ordered plenty from the US and never had an issue yet, other than slack USPS tracking! I wouldn't panic yet.

Same..ordered about 6 times so far from USA with no problems from 5 different suppliers. Usually takes about 10 days max for stuff to arrive once sent.
See what your latest email reply is before worrying too much.

Last time I checked, the ohlins shock I bought thru ebay for the Fireblade still had not left the shippers. It's been on the bike for almost a year now.
Delivery time was fine, but their tracking process sucks.

Depending on the shipping method they've used that's all the info you'll get unfortunately. Dont panic, it'll get here.

The worst I've had is about 4 months delay! Only because ASV SUCK ASS!!! But that wasn't a delay in the shipping. Just a delay in the company. Dick heads.

Agree. I had kit arrived and two days later their site side it was being delivered. I got excited because I thought I was getting a bonus.

Yeah if it was sent a week ago based on email I would probably give it until next Friday. That gives you a good "10 days".
I've just ordered some parts from the states a few days ago. They said they were shipped so it'll be interesting to see how long they take. I only paid NZ$10 including shipping :) I thought it would be a cheap test. I wait...

It varies - depends on who's sending it. I've had things arrive in less than a week, and the longest was four months from Canadia (although to be fair, that was something that was free, so I told my Canadian mate to send it the cheapest way, which turned out to be a slow boat from China - possibly literally).
Often I get some of my Interdweeb friends to buy and ship things for me, especially if sellers/vendors won't ship outside of the continental US.
Sometimes you end up being reamed on shipping - my $750 shock cost me $250 freight because the shipper wouldn't use anything other than a first-class courier, so he could be sure that it was delivered, tracked, insured, etc.
The worst thing I bought was a hugger from some guy on a forum - I paid him immediately, and it took weeks and weeks and intervention by the forum owner to get him to send the item.

HI,
Sorry for the delayed response....
Your order was shipped and is well on its way. Infact it should have made it by now. Let me do some investigating on this and I'll get back to you.
I'm really sorry for the inconvenience...
Thanks,
Steve

I had some ebay items shipped to me a couple of weeks ago.
Came from 2 different sellers, one with USPS and the other with EMS from china I think.
USPS said it was yet to be received from seller for nearly 2 weeks. I was literally writing an email to him and it turned up at the door, the site is still not updated.
EMS said that the item is stuck in Singapore, it was updated after I recieved it.
Last week I bought a Chain from a US site and an ignitor unit from ebay, and USPS seems to be up to date this time around
Luck of the draw I think

I wanted that same set of bikebolts for my GPX, but I ended up ordering from powersports in hamilton. Got the exact same set in a few days. ;)
Doesn't look like they do them anymore though.

I've ordered quite a few orders from BTO sports and Z1 spares all usually arrive in a week or less!
You only have a certain amount of time with the bank to cancel the transaction of it was via bankcard so you better check.
PS looks like there is quite a lot of stuff coming in directly according to this thread. Better not let the kiwi retailers read this!

Doesn't look like they do them anymore though.Powersports only seem to do the new ninja. However i completely forgot about them before i ordered from the bikebolts site. I would have asked them first otherwise. If nothing comes in i will see if they can get them in.

I Have got few a few bike bits and gear from the States lately.I would much prefer to buy from a NZ dealer, but I can not ignore so major issue's buying bike bits and gear here in NZ.
The major issues are the most important issues. Cost and Availability! Just been getting the Mrs a bike outfit. Worked out what we were after, with great help from the dealer. However when going to do the deal, sorry its going to be 5 weeks until they are here and you can only get it in this colour(not the one she wanted of course).Thats for the Jacket, now the boots, Sorry Just sold the last pair in that size. No more for 2 months. Does she want a different size? Thay ask.
I also want to get a top box for the bike, Dealer gives me a price(with slight discount) Then says shipping to From AKl to home is extra and they have to come from Austria so will be 2 months.
Go Figure?!
So what do I do, I go online buy the whole lot from the states exactly what i want, paying a huge frieght cost but they still work out cheaper with the current exchange rates.
I would much prefer to support Dealers here in NZ, but why the hell would you when you have to wait for so long, and pay more!
I know there are some people on here who think we are traitors, and are screwwing Bike shops that can not compete with the yanks at the moment. But the issue apears to be with the Wholesalers in NZ who A) Think they have a monopoly and enjoy good big margins at the expense of the retailer
B)are always so conservative when it comes to volume of stock.
Sorry guys but with the current service from the Wholsalers in NZ(not the retailers)why the hell would you Not buy in bike bits from the states with the current exchange rates!
In terms of delivery from USA I have only had one problem so far. One outfit sent the wrong bits. Very good service as straight away the right parts were sent.
Cheers Dion

a familiar scenario for me, but my main gripe is price, although there is almost always a wait to get the parts from Auckland distributor as well.
I've just ordered some Triumph (original) parts from the States. Actual parts cost is US329.95. Shipping is another US$122 making a total of US$451.95. The NZ price for the same items is $935.90.
Using 72c exchange rate, the US$ converts to approx NZ$578. If I get stung for GST, price will be $650 all up, so at worse my saving will be around $285.00.
