View Full Version : What the? And why can't I race in all F4 races at Taupo

Can someone please explain the logic behind excluding riders such as myself racing in the GP race(s) at Taupo just after Christmas.
I'm not interested in trophies or prize money. All I'm wanting to do is put my bike in a national field and see how well we go after a year of racing and developing it.
And maybe in a year or two when I think I have enough experience and a good enough bike might actually start racing the GP meets.
Surely a race where the grid is full, with potential new blood to compete in future events along with other unknowns is alot more exiting and fun to watch than the same bikes/riders.
I also find it a bit rude they have decided to bring this in now when I have already entered, paid and arranged time off work to go.
Since learning a week ago of this ruling I have tried to come up with a logical reason for this rule and all I can come up with is they are trying to get more money or some gp rider has got their knickers in a twist about possibly being beaten by some new comer.

Well your assumptions are way out the left field there mate!
It's because the F4 GP is a 'National' title and unless you have a full competition licence you are not allowed to race in 'national' races.
I assume you plan on doing the TRRS on a 'day licence' ? I hope you have a current membership to a MNZ affiliated club as you could be excluded if you don't have that as well!
You are still allowed to race in all the other races it is just the one particular race that you are not eligible for.
Pays to read the rule book it is all in there!

Yes I will be doing the the TRRS on a day licence. I know it's only one race. What I want to know is why?
I thought to get a licence you had to have raced in a certain number of races before you could get a licence anyway. Considering this rate its going to take me years to have raced in enough races to qualify.

Err, no, if you have 2 recent 'day' licenses you receive a discount on the cost of a race license. If you are racing regularly you should have a full MNZ license anyway, it is a requirement at most clubs.

You can get a race licence without having done any events but MNZ rules state (or at least used to)that to do a National event you need to have done 3 events before hand
Nothing whatsoever to do with them getting more money of a GP rider having their knickers in a twist

I only started racing this year as well. It's the same for Street Racing. To race in the Greymouth Street Races I had to have a MNZ Licence and at least three stamps in the log book. It was no trouble getting the MNZ Licence, I had to join an affiliated club as well. It's a shame that it has upset your plans, but all I can say is get on with getting a licence it's worth it.

Currently in Wellington we do not need a MNZ licence to race our buckets so many of us don't have one but are racing at least once a month.
George, it may be worth looking into getting an MNZ licence if you're thinking of doing much racing out of town as I'm pretty sure everywhere else requires you to have one or purchase a day licence. It only takes a few day licences to pay for a full years one. Also we will most likely be having a few meetings next year in Wellington that will require you to have an MNZ licence, so may as well just get one.

sorry AllA50s, we are not trying to get more money or anything like that, in fact we do all possible to make it as cheap as poss for the riders. It is a MNZ rule for a national race,we dont mind everyone in together but it is the MNZ stewerds decision. last year the stewerd "let us off" & let everyone race but not allowed to get a placing, which we thought was fair. new stewerd this year. If he upholds the rule, you can still go in other races, & we will let day licences race in S/stock race as well to make up for it , sorry again but it is not in our hands. Chris

I appreciate (along with many others I sure) the amount of hard work you and your co-horts put into staging this event.
Is it possible for you to ask the steward what prompted, why the rule exists. Or a way I can contact them?

in a big race
sorry thats life we all have to live with it
just look what hapend at puk on the 600 when someone crosed the back straight without looking

"you and your co-horts"
I along with many others have a great deal of respect and appreciation for Chris and his brother who are behind the TRRS and it would be a mistake to start disrespecting them, and I can assure you, you will lose a lot of friends and quickly if you do that.
The TRRS is not a Bucket event, its a Nationaly sanction road race meeting that happens to include F4 and F5 classes, because the organisers have a soft spot for them, lucky us.
To ride at a National event, you, your bike, your riding gear and paperwork all have to be up to national road race standards. If you think you can bring a bucket of shit and/or an argumentitive attatude to this event, you are wrong.
If you can get everything up to scratch I look forward to seeing you there.

So is it WRONG to ask the question even if it is not phrased or perhaps interpereted correctly.

No its not wrong to ask once, if you can accept the answer, it becomes wrong when you go on about it.

Having been a steward at club level and Clerk of the course at national events (admittedly off road) I can quite understand the stewards attitude. What it comes down to is every time you make a decision you have to think "What would the coroner say" and if you throw one rule out the window they start asking what other parts of the rule book you decided to ignore.

Not a stewards rule, its MNZ rule for championship events.
