Folk can you give me some advice on getting a decent insurance
I called NZI today (me and my family previously had awesome experience with them, specially them being very prompt on our claims) for my 03, 636
This is what I got
Im under 25
Got full license
This is my first ever insurance
So after asking me couple of questions this what they came up with
$1731.31 / year for full insurance (Has $1000.00 excess)
This covers anything and everything. Will have to pay that off in 6 months and for next 6 months nothing to pay
And 157.00 / year for third party (No theft/fire..etc..) also has $1000.00 excess
There is nothing in between either 1731.31 or 157
I definitely want to have full insurance and it seems to me a bit too expensive
I will call kiwibike and some other places tomorrow...
Any good advice will be appreciated
Cheers

Try Protecta. pretty good deals, if you bought your bike at shop they generally get better discounts again..good luck

depends on how far off 25 you are.
I phoned a few and settled with State. Smudge over $1k all up, and I can take it on the track too (don't forget to ask about that!)

WTF!??
trackday cover too? the fuckers couldn't even pay for my bike when it got stolen... but they allow people to trash their bikes at puke now?

only no-timed events. As soon as a stopwatch starts, the insurance stops. It's treated as a closed road, so trash away.. just make sure no one nicks it at lunch time

I've never heard of anyone getting an easy claim though state... I'm with AMI and they sorted my claim within 3 days (cheque banked). Have no complaints about them - they move almost too fast!

Buy a small bike (cheep as possible) keep it insured for 1 year.
Then you have 1years no-claim bonus - then insure your real bike.
If you have had no claims on your car insurance then you could maybe convince them to transfer the bonus from that.
Use the same company as your house contents and try get a discount for multiple policies

Thanks for that but getting another smaller bike isn't an option at the moment. Also all my car insuranc were under my dad's name and I was the second driver. But we never had to claim anything under my name. so that will not help
house content insurance sounds like a good idea, will give that a try
thanks again

Another quick question: how much should i tell them my bike worth? It's all stock. I said 15000.00 last time, just to be in safe side. Should i bring the price down? Would that help? Also that fact I keep it in a locked garage and putting an alarm on the bike, should I mention all those to them or they don't matter. (They mattered when we got car insurance). Thanks

definitely mention that it's locked up in a gargre, that does make a difference. When I was shopping around for mine, the idea of putting an alarm on the bike made no difference in the quote, so unless you're really paranoid, it's probably not worth the few hundy to stick one on.
As for the price of the bike, I often wonder why they ask. They have their opinion of how much the market value is should something happen to it. The fact you might have paid $50,000 for it isn't going to affect their judgement on the policy, as if you had paid $10. End of the day, they pay out on the bike (or repairs), which is governed by the market, not what you paid or think it's worth. Your bike will probably be worth a less than 15 on the market, but go ahead and tell 'em anyway, then it might pursuade them to up the bikes' value a bit..
actually, saying that, even then, it's often a bike shop that will tell the insurer how much your machine is worth. So tell them you paid $50,000 for your bike, and see what happens..

putting an alarm on the bike
This may lower any theft excess... (as should garaging it)

Well my brother is in the insurance game and thanks to previous posts from KBers theres a chap in the South Island ...Goodfellow or something like that. He goes through Vero from memory. Damn I should know cos I went through him for insurance.
He can get better premiums for bikers because as a broker he is based in the South Island and there are fewer crashes there - fewer crashes means better premiums. I will find out details if you still interested? Or read some of the older posts
BTW no one in Aucks could beat his deal. I checked!

Just spoke to my company ... AMI
My CB400 is fully covered at a market value of $5000 with an excess of $300 and the cover costs me just $422 per annum. It is noted in the policy that the bike is garaged and the only thing they might dispute therefore is if the bike is stolen at night from the road outside my house (ie, why wasn't it in the garage?) If the bike is stolen off the street in town ... no problem.
I have a 40% no claim bonus and a further discount as I also have both my house and contents insurance with them. Also, I'm over 25. When I turn 55 I get a further discount (good incentive to keep biking for another 10 years). Obviously, the more history you have with a company, the better.
They are wary of under 25s wanting insurance for the first time but said if a 20 year old with a sub 250cc bike came in with a good history and in the right circumstances they would insure them from about $680 per annum.
A comment I saw in a thread about insurance mentioned a claim for a bike stolen from a garage turned down because the policy required the bike to be chained to a bolt in the garage floor. I mentioned this to AMI and they said the only time that sort of clause would be used would be for an exotic bike of some sort ... and that requirement would be written into the policy and bought to the client's attention.
For me, I can't go past AMI. Cheap (for me anyway), fast and good to deal with.

I have a problem insuring my bike as well. I am in the same situation you are in. I am under 25 and a 636....
I have had quotes from most places and it is about $1700 per year. Different places vary in their excess and theft policies (one place quoted $4000 excess for theft).
Let me know how you get along!

I originally got my bike quoted for $16500. Then lowered it to $15,000 and the difference was $20.00 a year..???!?!?!?! So don't bother. I found that age was the main thing making the premium so expensive.
He also works with Robyn Stace from the Honda riders club to do great deals for their members on bike insurace, thats who I insured mine with.
I just signed up with HRC and I will call on Monday to get a quote for my 636. I have heard they do good deals.
Hope this helps.

hey does ur dad ride? coz my dad ain’t got no bike licence, hell he never even rode a bike... Coz that's what I thought first, to get the insurance under my dad's name, as he got like 5 cars insured with state and home and content as well, but I don’t wanna get in trouble if I do need to make a claim and they come up with all these excuses as he doesn’t have any bike licence and stuff like that...

by HRC u mean Honda riders club???can you insure non-honda's with them?????????
I called up kiwi bike...they gave me a quote for protecta which wa slower than what portecta gave me when i approcahed them directly....the broker told me that they get a better rate...compare this
thru protecta-$1700 premium+12.5 % of the valule of the bike excess if its not ur fault and 25% othewise
thru kiwibike(protecta) 978$ +1500 excess.........and 500 gets reduced if i get my NZ full license..........
these quotes were for a $12500 GSXR600 K4............
0800 MCYCLE -- no for kiwibike............

I'm 19
sr250 with insured value of $1000 (i know it's worth more but didn't want to insure it for full amount) excess of $200
2 years no claims discount, i'm paying 3rd party at about $25 per year, i only really commute and occasionally go for a burn over the motorway so not really to much chance of me causing a crash on it but if i did say slide off on ice i'm going to do stuff all damage to the sr250 cause the parts for them are cheap anyway, but i might do 5 grand worth of panel damage to the bmw/merc/other expensive car parked on the side of the road, thats basically the only reason i have insurance, damn dunedin ice!
Thought I would let ya guys know:
Finally I decided to go with Kiwi bike (Well actually Swanson (spelling ??))
I called them real late around 6 (bloody work) and the dude who owns it, picked up the phone. Forgot his name but very very nice guys…
So this is what I got:
Full insurance:
$925.00 / year (this can go down a little bit If I can give them my dad’s insurance number, where I was the second driver [for car] )
$1000.00 excess for theft
$500.00 excess for accidental damage
Bike value: $14000.00 (And if I do any kind of modification just need to let them know and they will add that to the total)
Dunno if this is the best deal, but works for me and Im happy with that :niceone:

Hi mate
you under 25? and does it matter if you in akl..?
I got a 600 cbr and just got my full license last week. Im 22 at the moment and have been riding bike for 4 years. But the bike was insured under my brothers name...so not sure if this can be of any benefit to me...
Regarsd
If you weren't a named driver, i don't think it will be any good to you. Since you have a CBR600, I suggest trying Honda Riders Club. They do deals on insurance for honda's and other bikes.
Let me know how u get along. I am still trying to decide insurance on my 636. Best quote was from honda riders club at $1400.

Hi Guys
Need your opinion on the following...
after ringing lots of places today... i came up with this as the BEST
now me being a newbie in insurance and i know some of u must be masters of insurance by now... could you please explain to me the following and let me know if this deal sounds amazing..
Company : HRC
For bike worth : NZD 9000
Excess: $700-00 for first claim, $1200-00 for subsequent claim in same insurance period, $1000-00 theft excess
No Claims Bonus 60% based on no previous claims during last 6 years
Premium $585.60 per yr
Now i need to know bout the EXCESS PART in SIMPLE ENGLISH...
can someone please give me some examples of situation where this excess stuff comes into effect.... like if i were to get involved in an accident (hopefully never) or if i my bike were to get stolen...
I really appreciate your help ...
Thanx
