I HATE SCREAMING DJs AND ADDS!!!

With you there bruddah.
I have been ripping my music to mp3's for a few years now. Have most of my favourite radio playlists made up - hit random on the 'puter player or ipod and have them pesky dj's and advertisements elminated.

Doesn't find you anything new only downside.
So I scan the dial and end up back at hauraki anyway, cause at least the music is occasionally worth the opiniated DJ and ads - go figure.

At least I've learned about NZ pub rock and how good some of that is.

Reminds me - I have one of those cheapo compliation CD's 'Greatest Australian Hits of all Time' - It has Dragon, Split Enz, Mi Sex, DD Smash, Max Merrit and Sharon Oneil on it.
Fortunately no '20 odd foot of grunt' - you can keep him!

No station here compares to 97.1 The Eagle back home. Sucks that they shut it down. Anyway all it played was pure rock. No hip hop, no rap no classical no country just straight hardcore ROCK!!!

Mate - find a couple of good review sites on the 'net and get your tips from there. I've found tons of stuff by downloading while reading up.
Despite what the music industry says, I was buying heaps more CDs when it was a free-for-all on Napster. You could read up and download a song or two to see if you liked it.
It's a lot harder to find what you want now and I don't buy anywhere near the stuff that I used to.

Yeah rock only for me, unless there is sport that I can't watch on tv then its radio sport.

Only gay thing about the rock is that they seem to gradually going closer and closer to teenie bopper music and also sunday nite is crap. Tried hauraki once but its too old skool for me, need just an 80's rock station.

My favourite would be http://www.splendidezine.com/.
A lot of the stuff is too new and obscure to find but if you search out the other bands or earlier albums they mention in the reviews you can find some real gems.

But google about and you'll find heaps depending on your tastes.
A couple of general suggestions are http://www.allmusic.com/ if you want any information on any band or http://www.metacritic.com/music/ for all sorts of stuff (including books & films).

Let me know what you find.
Also, the only search program that I can find that is even remotely useful without loading your PC up with too much crap is Kazaa. I'd be interested in any alternatives that you might know.

Hello
but I asume you all have internet ,,,,,ever heard of streaming radio even yahoo has a radio station you can select your own music and it Learns what you like ....
On the move I use my wireless card in a pda ..or ripped mp3 s .....as for ads I tried listening to more fm today and had to go to work before the ads finished they took that long ...
Ads suck ( good ones dont such as in britain ) bad ones are an insult to my inteligence and no ,,,those catchy jingles dont stick they just annoy

But I did ask if I could dredge....
Just wondering with so many new members since this was last posted in, what radio station do you listen to? Reasons why would be good too.

I listen to Hauraki most of the time at work and for 'Led before bed' etc, but also enjoy Kix FM here in Wellytown. No ads, no weather, news or sport, just continuous old classic rock and new rock too, awesome!!!http://www.kixfm.co.nz/

What about you lot?

Axe attack on sunday nights is the only thing on the rock worth listening.. Half the stuff they play during the rest of the day is utter shit.

Bring on the metal!

National Radio is the Shiz Nits. Or should I say Radio New Zealand National.

Radio just sucks nowadays. I only listen to The Rock on the weekend but it's nothing like it used to be. If I'm really desperate I'll listen to Hauraki but I can't stand the presenters.

BAD DAD
3rd June 2007, 20:21
If I'm stuck with the radio it will be Hauraki, Rock and BFM in that order for "music" although I find the first 2 way too commercial and repetative to stomach for very long ( and why on Uranus do we need a DJ on a music station anyway? and what is this crap about having 2 of the idiots on at the same time during commuting hours ? ) When the radio music causes too much nausia I'll listen to ZB in the morning or possibly BBC. National just gets really dozy and plays some of the worst music possible. Must be getting old or sommat.

Hauraki after the morning pirates have gone or even classic hits till they go, the Rock is crap every song sounds the same till the night shows. Radio live for a laugh now and then. Hauraki has had the same play list and play order for about 10 years now i think, reliable!

always laugh when i change the hangar radio off the rock onto the raki. 9 times out of 10 there'll be pink floyd or led zep playing when i do.

'Led before Bed' is the best show on radio, closely followed by the album sideshow - some really cool floyd/waters etc on late at night

Pirate FM in Wellington used to be the best and only station I would listen too. Until Derek died and the Rock took over the frequency.

It was pretty much all requests but on Sunday nights they played a newly released album from end to end and they tell ya when to hit record on the tape player so you could record it for free.
