If you gave an air gun, you dont even need a compressor. The gas barby bottle makes a useable, if dangerous source of compressed gas. Clearly if you do this, you should treat it like the weapon that it is, but hey it works! Breezy outdoor environment only plz. Not for use on a calm day or anywhere near a building, or anywhere near anything for that matter. Works also with a paint spraygun, but you need a regulator.

Nah, it'll be sweet man.
What could possibly go wrong with dispersing lots of flamable gas into the atmosphere?
Do us a favour will ya, make sure you don't mention motorcycles on the ACC claim form eh.

dose anyone want to back up using a lpg tank? cos i'd give it ago if it wasnt for DB suggesting it...As long as theres LOTS of breeze to disperse it, you will be fine. Breezy day, middle of the lawn, away from cars and buildings, and continuously be on the lookout for ignition sources.
Never inside a building, carport, or around any crevice where the flammable gas will pool - thats when you provoke the loud wall-removing boom.
If something ignites, drop it and walk away. Don't try to resolve it. Get away from it and then make a plan.

LPG is alot lower pressure than a compressor will run at( 100 to 120psi) and wouldn't do stuff all. Plus its flamable and when you bead blast (or blast any other product) it makes static electricity. When bead blasting old spark plugs to clean the they create enough static to jump the electrode about every 15 seconds
9kg LPG refill costs 20$ or more
Cheap compressor from super cheap $200 , and you can reuse the compressor

Walk away? You may not need to, there's a good chance of being blown clear if something ignites. Ever heard of a fuel air bomb?

Walk away? You may not need to, there's a good chance of being blown clear if something ignites. Ever heard of a fuel air bomb?Yeah thats when you get an approximately correct mixture of fuel and air and tightly contain it, and then ignite it. Try that outdoors on a windy day, and its completely infeasible. LPG is pretty safe uncontained.
On a calm day we emptied a whole LPG bottle into the back yard once. We were a little worried for about 15 mins afterwards, because it sank into every little corner on the ground and just lay there.. so we fucked off down the road and put our fingers in our ears and hoped for the best. Nothing happened, but it could of.
Same thing with a flat tyre once, but with 350KPa of approx 50/50 fuel/air in the tyre, after a (very short) while I was unable to reconcile it (images of detonating tyres etc) so I repeatedly flushed it with air until it smelled clean. Fark that would have gone off like a grenade.
Once I sold a car that needed the aircon servicing, and the bloke complained it had no aircon, so I filled it from the gas barby bottle.. worked mint. He was happy, and I banked the cash so all good! I didn't see any gaping smoking holes in any local roads, so I assume it was all sweet.
Why so serious? Hahaha...

So I take it you tried to ignite it then to simulate something going wrong - like say someone lighting a cigerette?

Aircon and refrigeration use "hydrocarbon refrigerants"-in other words propane
It's why the Tamahere coolstore went up.
Freon is no longer PC. Ammonia is too noxious.

Fuck off twat, as long as you (or anyone) persists with posting stupid shit I'll continue to point it out.
You have a problem with that then stop posting stupid advice.
You don't have a problem with that then stop your whining crybaby.
Now sure it may well have been a piss take, but there is always the chance, like the numpty who put CRC on his brakes to stop them squeaking on the advice of someone else, that someone takes something you say as genuine.
So I simply err on the side of caution and point out the stupidity.

Aircon and refrigeration use "hydrocarbon refrigerants"-in other words propane - It's why the Tamahere coolstore went up. Freon is no longer PC. Ammonia is too noxious.Ah yeah, cough, there is that. Most of my refrigeration systems are R406A - has some butane in it, but otherwise quite difficult to form an explosive mixture with air.
Tamahere - If they had hundreds of KGs of propane in there, I doubt it would be any less flammable than hundreds of KGs of ammonia. Either way, its going to be a fucking inferno. I'm surprised they don't have a way to flash off the refrigerant in a controlled fashion in the event of a fire. There is ALREADY a fire, so they might as well shoot it straight up and light it, rather than let it overheat, vent into a closed room, and then go boom.
Most supermarket refrigeration systems in NZ are ammonia based AIUI.
It's easy to put something in front of the public and watch them scream it down, KB stylez. Lucky its not my heart attack.

News to me after 20 years in the air conditioning industry.
407c, 134a and 407c are non flamable.
Freon is a brand name, you can no longer by R11, R12 and R22 is being phased out.
ammonia is a great refrigerent , I have used it in larger industrial plants...but you better be a good runner when it leaks.:innocent:

Tamahere was 95% propane....how would you flash that off in the event of a fire....? same way you flash any fucking thing off - pipe it straight upwards out the rooftop through a 4 inch pipe and light the fucker. What would you rather? A nice continuous orange flame venting harmlessly upward, or it to simmer away for an hour and then forcefully detonate?
Ammonia is no where near as inflamable....It makes no difference how "flammable" it is. In fact, the more difficult it is to light off, the more likely it will accumulate and pre-heat below its lower explosive limit, before it does go up with a massive thunderclap. All good fun, but not appreciated by firemens' families and others who were not warned.
Just because I think differently to you is no reason to be a jerk.

One of the scariest things I've ever seen. Blew me off my feet, and I was a block away. DO NOT TAKE VOLATILE LIQUIDS/GASES LIGHTLY.
One of the firemen played in our local rugby team. The skin on his hands melted and glued him to the fire nozzle, he was wearing all the safety gear. He now has webbed hands and scars on face/arms/torso.
If I can find the Cairns newspaper pic I will.
DB, its all fun till a few of ya mates are maimed. Not much fun then.
