Continuous registration

So what's all this lark about then? Got a 1962 Morris Mini Minor, it says `Continuous registration: No'. So does that mean I can ignore the `your registration is about to expire' letter, or do I need to put the rego on hold while it's off the road (painting, carpets, need to get a car license too I suppose...)?

Although it's only $95 or something for 12 months rego. Despite it not needing seatbelts or nothin'. Kewl. Go ACC.

When a vehicle is over 40 years old you can just register it in the summer! Possibly without putting rego on hold!

Normally you have to register for a minimum of three months. And if you don't renew the licence , then when you do you have to pay the back licence fee.

But vintage vehicles , that doesn't apply. If the rego expires, you CAN ignore it, FOR A WHILE. When you go to reregister you just pay from that date

BUT : IF THE VEHICLE REMAINS UNLICENSED FOR TWO YEARS THE REGISTRATION WILL BE CANCELLED. DON'T GO THERE


best to put it on hold . But if you don't use it often you can just register it for one day if you want.

Yup. I picked up some seats from around the corner yesterday (fellow doing up a Clubman from ground-up, he's going the 70s racer look with flares and big wheels... so his original seats had to go, I picked them up for a song as mine are stuffed), loaded them into the car beside me. Found it impossible to shift into second gear with the ridiculous throw of the lever and the seats in the way :laugh:

With the SU carb and tiny little ports (perhaps the long stroke of the 848cc too) they will pull with your foot flat from almost no revs quite happily, so 1st->3rd was hardly an issue.

As I say in the other thread, my cousin and I drove it back from Raglan, it blew a head gasket and overheated on the way, pulled the head off and it was cracked... seems buying my first car was like buying my first bike... Oh well, new head now, you don't own a vehicle until you've looked inside.

Paint is non-standard and horrible, I've decided on Clipper Blue. I have the original Morris grill with the car (I'll flick the Austin grill off, it's in good nick), will paint it white to match the 1959 Mk.Is.
