I might be keen for this, but won't know until Sunday evening. Might have a seat cover too.. Probably slow me down to a zooki pace, ay wt?
Anyone been down in the past couple of days? The roadworks any better yet? There was a real heavy metal :Punk: section of the road that had been dug up for about 500m. Was a slow one, on a camber too, didn't help..

O well, hope you guys have a good ride down south. Takes me 40 mins just to get to AB Papakura so I can't make the 10 am meet...only just got home from a nice sunny breakfast at a Swanson cafe.
I'll be heading up SH16 in about an hour, so anyone wanting to come along will find me fueling up at Shell Westgate at 11 am. I'll wait around for 10 mins before heading off into the blue skiies!!

I had a bit of a late start. Headed down at 3PM and caught you guys going the other way towards Tuakau. (Yep, I was the guy on the trail bike waving)
Had a good blast down and up and made it back just in time before it got too dark.

Well I have an admission to make --i have actually never ridden the legendary 22 before.
Hooking up with a gang of guys who had riddeen it at least a few times had me a touch worried. Especially on a borrowed bike with baby bikie on the back.
I was actually really enjoying a slow quiet ride in the country.poodling along behind ol trash man when I looked in my mirrors and saw--well Not a lot actually.
I thought I'd better stop in case we'd gone the wrong way.
The first two guys to turn up took an interesting um-diversion -Ill let them explain that.
Im not even gonna try to explain "bike sick " to anyone that wasn't there.
Sufice it to say it was a bitch to clean off a very hot exhaust.
Thanks a million to mrs quazi for the loan of the warm jumper for baby bikie.
My Impressions of 22.
Not bad -Not bad at all.
I dont like the shadey bits with a clear view visor -they look real dark and slippery.
My little encounter with a cage half on my side of the road was -um interesting.
This is one road i wanna have a go at -on a super motard. It seems to realy suit bikes able to get in and out of corners fast and hard and able to soak up some of the bumps.
do I wanna do it again--shit yea.
I prefer ol 16 and the mangawhai road but thats just me.

Had a nice wee ride yesterday along Ridge road and onto 22.
Me and Tony took off a little at the start, then I gapped it a bit more, could always see the Bandit in the mirrors a couple of turns back. Upped the pace on some of the faster stuff and looked my mirrors again, no Tony.
A bit further up, pull over to wait and have a cigarette, wait ten minutes, no bikes.
"Fuck, they must've turned off!"
Maximum attack for the remainder of 22, into BP. Pie, Coffee, cigarette, gotta go.
It was nice riding with you guys while it lasted, I hope you'll excuse my rudeness at leaving you, just wanted to get through the utter crap weather ahead.
catch ya's next time :niceone:

Was a good day, road was definatly interesting, i found u had to keep your eyes open for sudden changes in road condition (ie pot holes and continuous patches of gravel, another thing i learnt was not to follow the idiot infront off u straight towards the fence when the road vears left) but as frosty mentioned, it only ended in a little gravel lock up and a little off road ridding) made for an interesting experience. The road was definatly best through the middle section and towards the end. Heaps off nice tight lower speed corners, good for getting low and hard acceleration out of the corners. definatly would have liked a softer suspension set up for the bumps. overall a good ride with a good bunch off fairly evenly matched riders.

I had a good day too.
Woke up, sun was shining, birds were singing, busting my arse to go for a ride. Got going and had to chase micgoo down the motorway at silly speeds, met a few new guys, gassed up and got on our way.
First to go was WT with a nicely executed wheelstand. See ya, though I, so i carried on riding, having a blast. All of a sudden, my left toe felt like it was coming up to meet me, Hmmm, must be on the road :) woohoo. While I was celebrating this achievement XJ and son came flying past me.
Anyway, carried on at my own pace till mike starts riding on my arse, must be going too slow, better up the pace a bit. All was well till we got to a junction where the road turned right, and a side road went to the left. Uh oh, too fast, got on the brakes in a big way and came to a dusty stop in the gravel happy to be upright with mike to my left. The rest of the ride was comparatively un eventful, but fun all the same. Had a few cop scares on the way home, but that's life

My bike isnt all that modern but I really really have to push it hard to keep up with my mates motard thru there. One or 2 rides with him usually costs me a front tyre (wierd replacing the front twice to one rear) and I bet he doesnt get his bits bashed by the tank by some of the bad bumps.
and yer there are some crazy locals there.
mentioned this in another thread but im feeling more and more inclined to organise a smallish expedition thru the twin bridges route up north here.
The old HP monitor 16 and mangawai a bit these days :(

I don't ride 22 much these days,I'm usualy further west,on the gravel - but the XLV750 just ate this road, the 750 V twin could rip it up out of corners and fair lunge to the next one, dirt riding position made it change directions like a motocrosser and I never had to back off for any surface problems,a trip on the full 22 to Te Uku and back was the perfect sunday for me on that bike...oh,woe is me for selling it!
