would something like this work?

And just wire it to the battery with a fuse?

Anyone with some more 'know how' than me care to share their knowledge?

Yep, supercheap have them, probably cheaper then DSE too, they normally are... from memory between $3 and $8 depending on what brands/styles they have in stock... if they havent been hit by the price rises yet (all the bulbs went up heaps at the start of the year!)

Don't go cheap - you'll regret it.

Try this:

Go with viragos, or Burnsco is good too. Waterproof ones for boats so can mount them in the open. You shouldn't need to fuse it if your lazy as your plugs for whatever is being plugged into it will have a built fuse in the head. Otherwise this will make life easy

I put one of those waterproof ones on recently. Powered straight off the battery via a relay triggered from the taillight circuit. (comes on whenever the key is on) I put in a 10 amp fuse between the battery and the relay and a 1 amp fuse between the relay and socket. I also put in an easily reached waterproof switch to the socket.
