I like my gopro wide because it is so versatile. I can mount it anywhere on the bike or my body. I don't know of any other system that can do that. I've jumped in a swimming pool and recorded underwater action, chucked it on a stuntkite and fought with magpies, taken it to dreamworld and recorded some rides etc etc. It's just so cool. Shockproof outercase and waterproof to 100ft (or maybe it is 30?)

Not really the same camera tho

If video quality is the deciding factor then yes you are correct, but if it isn't then a comparison on other criteria is justified.
example: I have a mate that wants to capture the vortex characteristics of a tailfin and what effects the design of his new offshore racing hull has on it. He has blown 6 new gearboxes on his yami outboard with it and it is thought high freq cavitation is the culprit. The gopro is ideal to capture this data.

I'll sell you a Tachyon for $330 or VIO POV for $1250

I have a Vio POV myself and though it is not a High Def camera i reckon that it is better than Glens vholder-but it is much more expensive.......

If I had the money spare I would buy what Keith is proposing. Simply for the Digital Video Recording unit which writes to an SD card. Although it comes with a purpose built lens, you are not restricted to this and can use whatever image sensor device you like on it.

#after thought: Not sure if it has image stabilisation algo's built into it like the GoPro tho.

It doesn't have an image stabiliser but that doesn't seem to be an issue. There is a firmware download that I haven't got around to that improves the low light quality and enhances the colour which is another advantage with this model

It's the added motivation I need to get my ass out on my bike more often.

Just picture a great days riding, getting home plugging your HD camera into your LCD HD television with a pack of brews at the ready and watching yourself carving up the track in high def.

was like 445 ? nzd at time i pre ordered.

real good light transition, picks up bike sound pretty good, and my voice apparently O_O.

ez to use and seems strong as a bee,

fucking frustrated at moment thou, seems they have an issue with some brand SD cards, some ppl having probs, some not, im sure its just an ironing issue which i havent done yet,

just fails randomly while copying files from it, maybe i just need to format it using the camera ;o?, they told me to do a bunch of things and get back to em.

anyway it is a good thing ;x

There is a good discussian here about the issues people have been having with the SD cards in the GoPro HD.

That is a good find! Interesting reading about the difference between an Intel and AMD chip for vid-ed. I've downloaded the HD mp4 sample file from macromedia and will have a look at the transcoding issues. Gone is the day of the dinosaur scanconvertor!

After reading all of the card dramas and editing issues with the GoPro HD, I'd probably be keen for a VholdR Contour HD. Anyone keen to try and organize a group buy? I'm lazy and fail at organizing

I am starting to think the same thing, will give the GoPro some more time and read some more reports before deciding.

what are the editing dramas with the GoPro?
what video format does it create videos in? mpg, wmv, avi etc?

the Contour HD creates files in .mov format, windows media players dont recognise them. only apple products play them.

MPEG4 only. Good on a Mac, not so good on a PC.

I've been playing with a demo version of Adobe Premiere which appears to support the mov format....might be worth a go....Even the trial software download is pretty big though.
