View Full Version : Am I talented or just a dumbarse?

The meaning of talented:
having talent or special ability; gifted

The meaning of dumbarse:
a thoroughly stupid person; blockhead.

I am struggling to decide which is the best word to describe me...

I have blown up many 2 smokers. Today I thought that I would give blowing up a 4 stroke a go and well what can I say, it worked!

So while I can say that I have a "special gift" anyone that knows me, knows how many engines I have destroyed. I obviously havent learned anything so does this make me a blockhead?

ps - Thanks to Deano and F5Dave for all your help today!

Yes, they're all small bikes (under 200cc's)...

On the bright side - I have never (yet) had an accident caused by a seizure. Lucky too cause it was on the motorway (again) in the fast lane. Managed to get over to the BP!

That's what all my mates call me so why not!!

I digress...

Yes I know what oil is and how to check the level. Hell I can even ride a bike!! Wont know what has happened until it gets pulled apart. It is all a bit odd this time.... While I was on the overbridge heading North I felt what I thought was a large gust of wind brush over my right shin. Then I went to change downa gear and notice that there was no tension in the clutch lever, almost like the cable had snapped. When I pulled into the BP there was an oil like fluid all over my leg, tyre, seat and side of the bike and it was leaking oily like fluid. The clutch may have gone and thrown something through the engine or maybe the head gasket has blown. I dont think so though as the bike hasnt totally seized and still has compression...

Not a completely terminal failure then, so this one does not count :nono:

Two smokers will sieze to spite you sometimes, true, I have had it happen :D

Nasty 4 strokes have other ways to torment you. You are a "Hels" is what you are, unique, a one off :sunny:

But really, what's the bike and was it still under it's own power when you stopped?

My mighty FXR bucket commuter... I was in 5th gear going a decent speed as I was being blwon around by the wind a fair bit this arvo. As I say I didnt realise anything was wrong until I went to change gear. So I just kept going until I could change lanes to get into the BP servo. Then just applied the brakes and killed the engine. When I got off the bike it was totally seized and wouldn't be moved. Once Dave came to get me 20 mins later it was movable with obvious compression when pushed, it is stuck in 5th gear...

Well no mechanic here, but wonder if it's just in your gearbox, Dave move the gear shifter? You say it was locked up, but is that because your gear shifter was just floppy and the bike was still in a gear you think?

Gear shift wasnt floppy, it was rock solid. I think that the gearbox has gone, what I am hoping is it didn't do MAJOR damage if say it threw a bolt into the engine... Either way its a pain in the behind!

Sorry my mistake... clutch lever floppy etc.

Well you stopped the bike, which is a good thing, it was still running but leaking shit loads of oil and you could not change gears!?

Maybe the gear selector or likes has come apart and put a hole in the casing??

Just pulling it apart now. The top of the gearbox where the cable goes in has pulled apart, gotta see hwat caused it and if it caused any damage. Just hoping that I didnt starve it of oil for the time I kept it going and that the fix is easy and CHEAP!!!

WOOT! looks like I was lucky and stopped in time as there is no actual damage in the gearbox itself. A flush of the gearbox and a bit of oil and looks like "she'll be right"...

I must be talented, eh?!

Yeah we didn't check the gear lever or anything, I just wanted to get it in the van & underway as the traffic was building up & I had to get back to work.

Hopefully with the spring replaced & the actuation lever back in the engine it will be back to normal. Sure Mal will sort it.

Hope the train/buss wasn't too painful this morning.
Thanks for the beer.

Dunno about talented or dumbarse.

I'd say possibly given your lack of empathy regarding the mechanical limits of motorcycles, you're possibly suffering from mechanical aspergers.

I'd say your Sprecial Helz.

To blow that many motors up on purpose, would be talented. To blow that many motors up with ineptitude and thrashism, you'd be a blockhead. But to have that many motors die for no real reason when you are riding them...:niceone:

Dont know what you're trying to say but what happened to my FXR had nothing to do with the way I was riding it.... Dodgy suzuki parts and some bad luck was my problem!
