It all helps, I was on one almost two weeks ago (a thursday) and there were only 12 bikes. Times dont suit everyone, the impact aint the same sure but it all helps.
Theres always this.....http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=111425

I work til 7pm and considering I've just been given 3 days leave for the big one next week and doing the Saturday morning one as well, I still suck for not turning up to one that severely fucks up my working day? Thanks.

Was this the mystery protest...?
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=110980
The problem was that the protest ride was posted up by a site newbie, who then buggered off and didn't come back. Despite numerous requests for updates and confirmation, no further information was forthcoming.
Piss-poor organisation lead to piss-poor support. Shame but...

Curious WHY ON A TUESDAY in working hours... ? If I was unemployed I would have made a attempt! But if I was unemployed I would be looking for a job too... hmmm hard call.

Íts all about raising the profile of the motorcyclists plight. Well done for getting there, I wasn't able to on this occasion but I was on the last and will be again this weekend.
To my knowledge this is at least the second visit his office has had in as many weeks. They are very aware that we are not happy, keep up the pressure guys. The more they hear of our peaceful disapproval the better.

it left town at 5pm and was to slow peak hour traffic down even more than what the tins do on their own. but must say that the few bikes that where there did a fairly good job , traveled from tiatatu on ramp to kemue at a pace of 50 km an hour , was great so once again sorry if you getting me wrong

it was at 5 pm and the object was to slow the peak hour traffic down more than what the tins do by them selves. but must say that the few bikes that were there did a good job , about ten of us got onto the motorway at tiatitu and we only traveled at about 50 km an hour all the way to kumue and it was great. but once again to you all sorry if you getting this wrong, was not saying that any particular person sucks just the whole senrio

Yeah I had work too. Ive showed up to every protest/rally that has been on in Auckland so far. And I will make it to most the others. Weekdays are a bit of a loss for most of us though.

im not convinced holding up motorists is the best way to gain support anyway
not to mention that only 8 or 10 cars would even know bikes were doing it, everyone else would just be thinking 'man this traffic is even more fucked than usual'

Agreed.
"Yay - we've got something to complain about. An excuse to indulge in mayhem and thuggery...!"
Antisocial activity for the sole purpose of pissing off the general public will do nothing to advance our cause.

+1
A protest should be bikes simply parked in a public area with a couple of boards displaying why you are there.
I don't have a bike at the moment, but am happy to transport the boards to you guys in my cage.
Blocking traffic isn't a protest, that's just "disturbing the peace" in legalese.

You know the heading really should be changed. Is the air different up there on your pedestal. Personally I don't think Auckland Bikers Suck. And I'm one of them.
Are you just judgemental about us or is this something you do to many people in your life.
Thanks for taking the time to let me know how you feel about us but really I don't value your opinion so...

Slowing down traffic will obviously get ACC to notice us and gain lots of public support.

Add a +1 one to your numbers for at least part of the ride...
I was busy riding round town dropping flyers for Saturday's ride, and headed off home - hadn't heard much noise bout the protest today - so didn't really think it was much of a go-er.
Anyways... as I'm a westie - headed off home and saw everyone in the distance - lane split as hard as I could and I joined on the tail (behind a 2-up busa (i think)) - So I was there :) - peeled of @ te atatu - but did my little bit.
On thing though - only saw one rider with a protest shirt - I'm not sure the car drivers had a clue what was going on... We need to try make more impact on Saturday!

It was not in the KB calendar when I looked
I posted a thread asking if it was still on - replies = 0
I emailed my contacts to tell them it appeared it was cancelled.
oh dear never mind

How I'd love to be able to drop what I'm doing every time a protest ride is mentioned. Unfortunately that's not really possible.
Sustained responses are what's needed, and not everyone who is protesting is doing it in highly visible ways all the time. Please note the Scary Bikers Sewing Circle who have been incredibly hard at work behind the scenes and many others who have taken care of organising accomodation for the bikeoi for starters!
Get off your high horse and just do your bit ok?

I agree with Pixie. I was looking out for it as well, but it never seemed to gain any real traction, and was never a "sticky" thread.

Did the people at the ACC office really give a rats fuck what you thought?
Did they take out pen and paper noting down who you were and why you were there? No?
Well I hope it was a good ride.

+1 Miss.L. I too am taking 3 days off to go down to Wellington and who are you to say AKL riders suck? :bash:
A protest ride in slow peak hour traffic, to go to offices that are closed and 'protest' was never gonna get traction. your heart is in the right place and if you can get bikers who can go, great. But we all cant go!
Auckland riders are and will be doing their part in the protest againest Levy hikes, make no mistake! :angry2:

While I get what your saying Blade, the weekend turnouts have been phenomenal, and beyond expectation, especially Jaffaland
I imagine with geographical issues that Jaffa's face its only expected that mid week protest rides would be very poor turnouts
Fact that so MANY Jaffa's (affectionately used here) have taken Annual Leave, sickies, and outright leave without pay to be here with me on the 17th suggests to me that they do care.
Its a bloody expensive time of year to be taking leave and I for one appreciate every single rider on every single action, even if only 3 or 4.....
No, they dont suck bro, they have mortgages, wives and kids, (as I am sure you do or will have one day)
Pity yesterday fizzled in your viewpoint, but man ANYONE willing to go protest in Jaffa Rush Hour CHAOS deserves a fucking medal
Represent Auckland, you did on the 31st with the BIGGEST Rally of all the Ulysses gigs, mid week matters fuck all IMHO
