Just curious to know if anyone in NZ has done this yet as ive started thinking about doing it, and if so what did you think of it? (also any other supporting mods you may have done like exaust or air snorkle/box removal) :scooter:

Thanks for the insight Sidewinder :innocent:
Anyway i have done research on it before anyone pulls out that card next :bash: was just wondering if anyone in NZ had done it yet as a lot of the americans reckon it has improved their bikes whereas others have not noticed a difference.. Is this down to how the dealer has set it up to start with?

I've bought a jet kit and a new K&N filter for my GPX250, will let you know how it goes.

I have done it before, not on a bike like yours.
It is not that hard to do. If you have to.
What makes you think you need to shim the needles?
Do you have a stutter when you crack to WOT?

I want to remove the 8 or so allen grub screws from the end of my exhuast to try and give it more of a growl. Has anyone done this? Is it easy to modify factory exhaust?

With a grinder, its easy to modify factory anything..

What someone did with his exhaust...
Here is the jet kit I bought:

I've got a K&N Filter in there now with the stock airbox, going to tune it myself once I'm up to that part.

Did you get the pod or panel filter? (DOH re-read it and saw the stock airbox so im assuming its a panel one) And do you have an aftermarket exaust as well?
I've been thinking about dropping a new filter in there (i always drop aftermarket filters in all my vechles) i dont plan on doing anything to the exaust though.
So im thinking Panel filter and Shimming the needles a little.. (just the cheaper mods) Opinions on the stock can handling these mods, i dont see it as having too many issues (possibly a bit restrictive in the higher revs?)

It is said that for the Ninja 250's, proper tuning with a jet kit and better filters will give you much better results than a fancy exhaust.
Personally I went for the K&N drop in because the pod filters are quite noisy, it sounds like its going blahhhhh, blahhhhh.
If you want to hear what your bike would sound like with pod filters, just disconnect the airbox from the carbs. It's not pretty. :bleh:

Also, here's a tuning guide that I formatted from the one on the factory Pro website.
Have a quick read at least!
Have you tried adjusting the idle mixture as well?

Thanks for the guide, i'll have a read through it tonight.
Nah i have adjusted or changed anything yet, its stock standard.
Im just getting a bigger picture and feel for things before starting to make sure im going down the right path without just throwing $$ at it

FYI i think i read somewhere that only half of those bolts are actual bolts, the others are just decoration

I think for changing an air filter and exhaust, just shimming the needles won't be enough. You'd need to buy some jets.

Not necessarily...
I needed one shim for each needle on both my VFR750 and VTR1000, both of which had modified airfilters and zorsts. Generally, some/many/most bikes are set up a bit rich anyway from the factory, so raising the needle a tad (metric, of course) is all that's required. YMMV...

Might be different with recent emissions rules, making manufacturers lean out the mixtures as much as is safe? I know my 04 Hyo (Its built by engineers in Korea, not farmers in China:shutup:) was set up pretty lean from factory. I put pods on with a straight through and did a WOT plug chop with 1 size up pilots and 2/3 up mains and the plug was still bleached white. Then nursed my way home and took off the zorst and went back to a modified airbox to get it nice again.
I guess the best option would be to take it in small reversible steps and check the plug colour as you go.

At the moment my bike is stripped down while I ready it for the powdercoaters.
Work is decidedly slow seeing as I'm doing work on my car too. >.<
Ask me in a few weeks. :bleh:
