Update: Meeting for all for Parliament and Stadium marshal volunteers at Parrot & Jigger, 7pm, Monday 16th Nov.
Please note: Experience not necessary. We are seeking people to sacrifice the group ride and marshal at Parliament grounds or the Stadium (those at the Stadium will be relieved at some point to attend Parliament).
Some things I need to know about you:
1. Do you have any experience marshalling?
2. Do you have a 1st Aid Certificate?
3. Are you able to marshal from 10am to 3pm (possibly later)? If not, how many hours can you be available?
4. Can you attend a meeting on Monday, 16th Nov in the evening to finalise plans for Tuesday?*
*If you can't attend the meeting we will pair you up with someone who does.
I'll also organise some sort of i.d card for marshals to have with the BIKEOI symbol on it and we'll have high vis vest.

Well i'll put my hand up to assist.
It is important that we quickly and efficient park 1000's of bikes so everyone can get to parliament, rather than aimlessly riding around looking for that elusive park, then riding off home without placing a foot on parliament ground.
OUTER TOWNER'S who wish to help.
We will be working in teams and you will be briefed on Tuesday morning. Please contact Cathy for more details.

That's why the stadium is so fantastic eh.
There shouldn't be a need to ride around looking for the elusive park, there should be plenty of room to park so everyone can get to Parliament. Unfortunately not everyone seems to get that!

I can not believe that people are taking workday/days off to attend and expect to just rock in our city on "workday" and just park where ever they fancy... won't happen.
Haven't you ever read some of the parking issue threads that Wgtn. motorcyclists are facing on a normal daily basis.

The roads are quite wide. Would be able to park 1000's there easily. No traffic would be getting thru and towies would be hard pressed to remove the 6000 bikes that are clogging the streets. I still think we'll be lucky if we see half that number tho.

I see the police have revised their estimate to 3500. probably more realistic.

600 Bikes (I counted them myself) on 31st shut the area down, on lane left due to pedestrian overflow, stains on the Cenotaph from leaky bikes
We have the top end of Lambton outside Vic reserved as well as all the Molesworth parking in front of Parliament
The towies would not hesitate to wreck bikes to get their fee's dude, quit being so stupid

Just gave us a plug on Newztalk ZB Wellington
Was at 10.45 to 1052 or so so Sue gave us a good plug
Gave the plan as we have stated, she read some of Pete Bairds statement too
It was very up-beat and pro biker from her side too, and she asked if we were blaming cyclists,
To that I said "no theyre victims like us on the roads, often when THEY crash, like us they wre often avoiding other road users that drive poorly, and we end up wearing blame as no other vehicles colided with'
She agreed to that, wooohoo!
Anyway I aske Wellington to be patient with us, said we WONT shut the city down THIS time (see I hinted we can be bad) and said we come in peace
Said Westpac set a new level of trust letting us use the Fran Wilde, and blah blah
Can anyone find where it might be recorded?

all the cops need to do is write down your rego and then charge you with impeding the flow of traffic if you block the road on purpose.

Well I hope they exercise their better judgement & realise that in some cases blocking traffic is done for safety reasons, otherwise I & several others may be in a bit of trouble after today

Wait, wait , what ?
The ACC National office is in Molesworth St ?
Isn't that where the bikes are parking that don't go to the stadium?
riffer
15th November 2009, 10:59
Unfortunately, no.
It's about 300metres north of Parliament, just by the turnoff to the Motorway.
But if enough bikes could be praked on Molesworth, I imagine they could easily reach it.
Ixion
15th November 2009, 11:59
Within easy walking distance anyway (bugger me, if my lazy old legs can do 300 mtrs you young ones can).
I wonder if ACC would like to entertain a thousand bikers or so. Tea and sandwiches.
Maybe , if say a biker were to go in and ask for a bundle of cliam forms "cos if you bastards are going to screw us I'm going to get my money's worth".
Followed a minute later by another biker, ditto request.
Followed a minute later - well, y get where this is going.
Maybe about three at atime to put some pressure on.

2 Questions
That marshals are likely to be asked
1. Where is the nearest Toilet ?
yes I know we have a block at the stadium but are there others public toilets in the area that can be used ?
2. Where can I get a drink ?
yes I've seen the Shell shop are these other convenience stores in the area to point people to ?
Those familiar with down town please respond
Could someone please print a wall size map of the immediate area so these locations can be easily pointed out to Marshals at Monday nights meeting
Cheers

On molesworth (its the Govt Hubb what else would we expect;), The New World up the road does great food too. Not sure about loos though..Great cafe directly opposite the Bee Hive. O but FFS do not park in the New Word Car park as it will be towed, they are very anal about parking lol, sooo many cages get torn out of there.

Unfortunately, no.
It's about 300metres north of Parliament, just by the turnoff to the Motorway.
If you mean the Coffee cart its actually 90 meters (just paced it the other day) from Parliaments top gate' at the corner of Molesworth and Hawkstone st's, one block uphill
Its Fuel brand, and will be swamped in no time, but in the block JUST past it (sahed by ACC National HQ) are several cafe's and lunchbars
There are 2 cafes' directly opposite Parli and the Backbencher
A MASSIVE Pie Cart/sidewalk takeaway at the Train Station, 80 M from the bottom gate, just take Bunny st toward Rail station and its right there, 1 minute walk from parliament bottom gate and its used to dealing with BIG friday night crowds etc
New Worlds at Rail Station as well as another New World 150 mteres up the street at Molesworth st
Occidental and a shitload of Takeaways, and a convenience/drink shop just along Lambton Quay, so shitloads of refreshments options nearbye
Other than the loos at Stadium there are also:
Train Station, and the Bus Stops just by Uni, (unisex autocube things)
Toilets in Bus transit area (uni sex cubicle things)
There is a public loo somewhere near Parliament for lunchtime picnikers so someone find that too but I think we will be fine
There is a lot of easily found food and drink nearbye anyway

Had a walk around the Stadium this morning, There is more than enough parking space, had a chat with the Stadium Security Manager, They have plenty of cameras, for normal crowd control.
Will be having a chat with the Stadium Operations Manager tomorrow.
Stadium marshals will be there mainly to assist with the parking of bikes, and pointing of out of towners the quickest way to Parliment.

I know of a certain New World in the lower North Island that is being harrassed by the council "red tape" all because one of the councilors parked his car all day in their carpark and the supermarket had it towed LMAO
Theres plenty of parking in the stadium and people will be there to watch your bikes while you're at parlament.
