There's heaps of work being done on the Linton - Shannon road SH57 and a bit on the Opiki road SH56, both common alternatives to SH1 but not sure about SH1 itself. I rode down and back last week but mostly avoided SH1 apart from Mangaweka-Turangi and Hamilton-Auckland, both stretches fine.

Road works at Ohingati where they doing a re alignment. Gravel very fine gravel. Not a biggie.
Why SH1? Far better ways to get from A to W

Just guessing here but;
Massive areas of total tar bleed.
Small patches of new chip seal.
Large patches of new chip seal.
Etended areas of new chip seal.
Varying sectons of rough rolled aggregate and lime liberally sprayed with pond water.
Diesil spills.
Cow shit.
Cyclists.
In all or random areas in all points between Auckland & Wellington
The list goes on..........

Oh yeah forgot about Ohingaiti
I imagine this is BIKOI related, it's the only reason any sane person would use SH1. :Police:

It's funny you should mention tar bleed. I was gobsmacked to find the road melting in places around the western side of Taupo last week - mostly new seal too. How the fuck is the road melting in November? It must have only been low 20s - ok full sun but still - wtf? :bash:

Yes , if that's accurate Tuesday should be OK (and Monday except maybe for a bit of a wet over Taupo, right on lunchtime- damn). but she'll be a bit of a wet ride home. All just part of life's rich tapestry.

If you are heading south its before the pub. Just lock up the rear & slide straight into the carpark instead of trying to go through the esses:woohoo:

You forgot to add include the scale. It doesn't look that bad, most of the rain is predicted to be pretty light until later in the day.

There were road works on the north side of Taupo.
There were more south of Taupo but I will leave that for Ducky to tell as I am geographically challenged and well may get it wrong :o

Well if the rain hits on Wednesday when bikers are heading back up north beaware that if you choose to go through Palmy city centre. Road contractors have out an insane amount of tar snakes all over the city centre roads.
